Every damn time Trump tried to address issues he was blocked by dems in congress and blasted by the media.

Talk about revisionist history. He was given prime time every night and wasted it fighting his petty little personal battles. When he wasn't doing that he was rambling on about bits and pieces of ideas he barely heard but just never really made sense. However, he was far better at attempting to reform DC than anybody I remember - you'd have to go back at least to Reagan. Too bad the typical American voter is too busy with celebrity worship, reality shows, sales pitches, etc to really cut to the core of most arguments. Perhaps the "leaders" we get are the ones we deserve for not insisting on better. We get what we get because we have to have somebody dynamic and "experienced" in government. We as a country cannot conceive of a quiet thoughtful person at the top over some kind of meaningless flash and dash persona.

Trump was elected because he was a corporate celebrity - like Musk, etc. He just made his living in real estate rather than other popular but shady ventures. Maybe when it comes right down to it, the worst of the corporate world might do better things in DC than career politicians and dedicated diplomats and government experts trained by the ivy leagues. Yeah, there were handouts. How else do you suppose the remnants of a shutdown economy might function? If money doesn't flow, how do necessary goods and services? How do non working people buy food etc? Without cash flow how do business supplying necessities function? You have a better idea how to manage a shutdown economy - one that you didn't shut down? Do you think there wouldn't have been massive handouts whether or not Trump proposed them - congress controls the money - remember the border wall?

Too bad the people in government before Trump and covid didn't have any contingency plans in place. If covid took this kind of toll, think what an EMP attack or a dedicated attack on an increasingly connected and vulnerable infrastructure might do ... you think we're prepared for that?
