I’m in the infancy of planning and welcome to suggestions. I want to go to Jackson Hole and dip into Yellowstone. But I also would enjoy a Grand Canyon/desert style circuit.

depends on the age of the kids and how long you have for the trip.....may want to be careful that you don't spend all your time driving....
when our kids were in middle school we took a 2 week trip in our travel trailer:

first stop...Branson Missouri to Silver Dollar City.....our season passes to Dollywood were honored there since they are owned by the same company.

next was Dodge City as the halfway point to our main destination....this was an unexpectedly great place to stopover....we got lucky and was able to go to a professional rodeo....had a blast

next was Rocky Mountain National Park...lot of hiking and sightseeing

Then came Colorado Springs....Cog railway to the top of Pikes Peak, Flying W Ranch, Air Force Academy

Back across the country to St. Louis....Tourist things....the arch...really enjoyed Jefferson Memorial....Grants Farm

then back home.....the lesson learned for us was that we didn't make nearly as good time driving as we assumed during the planning stage....a third of the time was spent driving

and the Yellowstone thing....To see the maximum wildlife, go in May if possible and allow at least 4 days to see it all
