Ummmmm so why are they so gung ho behind a leader that wants to invade a country that broke away from communism and return said country back into the folds of the former USSR? And you are wrong also about 'fresh memories'. Look no further than our own country for that. Youth..... is ignorant of history.
My question is why the entire planet isn't calling out Putin for doing what he is doing. He is CLEARLY taking an aggressive stance. Or maybe he is just bluffing and trying to evoke a financial drain on the USA. He knows what an idiot we have at the helm, and with enough provocation, maybe we will implode financially.
I've been reading some older books lately, and the theme had a lot about Soviet efforts to corrupt the US with illegals, sleepers, moles - seducing people to buy into socialism/communism. It also touched on the old theme about turning elements of society against the whole. If you consider that it might have actually worked - antiwar movements, civil rights turmoil, etc, the irony would be that the Soviet Union collapsed before they could take advantage of it. Khrushchev's followers didn't get to bury us because their end fell apart first. Food for thought.
Another thought is that originally immigration with assimilation made us stronger. We included a lot of the best of what immigrants brought; we were never really a more homogeneous society like Japan for instance, but we achieved an identity. You could easily argue that the remaining social differences made us better - differing ways of looking at issues and approaches at solutions but blending them into a team effort. Now it appears that some immigration and new thinking has fractured that; it's fashionable to be different and not work as a whole. The theme seems to be "tear down the very characteristics, talents, and will that made us great" - turn it all into self loathing by discrediting any perceived "flaw" from the past. The Soviets could be proud of the achievement - whether they were a real part of it or not.
