Time to pay Coach Garner

I don't think Steele will go to Auburn, my guess is there is some bad blood between Steele and the athletic department . . . secondly, I don't think CRG wants any part of the possible dumpster fire on the Plains.

The rumor mill is in a fevered pitch with Harsin and his assistant, then the coordinators leaving - Mason was puzzling - but where there's smoke there's fire. Whether the rumors about Harsin are true or not, it is damaging AU's reputation and probably will have an adverse effect on finding experienced coordinators.

Oh well, I am just glad this go around of scandals it is Auburn and NOT UT . . . .

If Harsin finished the season better than he did, they'd be giving him a raise even with the same rumors floating around.

and who continues laughing... bama
Personally, I think behind the scenes the only ones bammer's don't laugh at are ta$m given the big NIL money they can throw at recruits. Maybe Kif a little bit, given the news making ability to overshadow, at times, the bama lock on press coverage. They don't play UGA often enough to give a darn about them and there is no Spurrier in gatorville to be a threat. LSU with the southern Irishman at the helm will rarely be a factor.

I read much about this yesterday when the news about Harsin's massive departures hit the headlines. Auburn is clearly the biggest dumpster fire going in CFB booster politics ever known to man. The boosters straight up run the school. Not too long ago a schism developed with the administration and boosters. The result was the president and AD quit / were thrown overboard. The boosters are largely split into two groups that have been at odds for years. The faction that flew Petrino in from Louisville while Chizick was HC largely wanted Kevin Steele to replace Malzahn. Evidently the opposition won the day and got Harsin. They may have won the battle but lost the war as Auburn just $h!t canned their president and got a new one yesterday. Is this movie starting to sound familiar? I just hate it for Harsin that he was dumb enough to leave a cozy gig at Boise State for the eternal flaming dumpster fire of the SEC. Every time I think of how bad things have been at Tennessee, I think of Auburn and it cheers me up.

Good Points, did not look to see what RG's Salary is at this moment but he deserves a bump....

Ummmm....No.
IF rumors out of Auburn are true, and Auburn Money Boosters fire Harbin and bring in Kevin Steele, you can bet one of his first phone calls, (before he even accepts) would be to Coach Garnet.. PAY the Man and lock him in

Why? Without AU bagmen, he doesn't seem to have his old mojo. Fine if he stays but I don't think it's worth getting in a bidding war with AU over him.
BS, Garner is the ace on our staff right now. He’s more important than anyone not named Heupel. Every defensive recruit we’ve pursued mentions Garner.

So kind of like the Anderson versus Haslam factions at Tennessee. And Haslam having Davenport sacked Bc she went against him? Yep it does sound like a familiar movie.

FWIW, CRG is currently the #221 ranked recruiter in the country. Jean-Mary, Elarbee, Mack, Ekeler, Banks, and Burns are all rated higher. Jean-Mary and Elarbee are the ones we can't afford to lose right now. If CRG leaves, CJH should reach out to Derek Mason. We could use his defensive mind and it would help in-state.

You mean like Tyre West? Who signed with Tennessee because of Rodney Garner?
see prior post. CRG is the 7th most effective recruiter on the staff right now. Your don't hire CRG for his coaching acumen. I think CJH could upgrade at that position in terms of recruiting results and on-the field/development results.

Also, I'm not saying he needs to go. He may be a good closer who's letting other staff get credit for for the pelts. idk. He's definitely not the CRG of old though.

What do you mean that you don’t hire him for his coaching acumen? Since he became the defensive line coach at UGA in 1998, he’s produced 28 draft picks, including six first rounders. The only other coaches who can come close to matching that are Ed Orgeron and Larry Johnson.

And imo he helped turn Matt Butler into #29.

Me thinks you might be overlooking LSU a tad here.... Kelly is a very good coach and LSU is powerhouse if they have a good coach.... that place recruits itself. They have had a string of bozos in there and still have two recent NCs and played for a third...

tallest midget is still a midget. CRG of today ain't CRG of the 90s. Recruiting is mostly a young man's game.
Garner is still recognized as one of the best in the nation at developing Dline. I’m not sure where you came up with this mindset but it’s misinformed at best. Garner has put more Dlinemen in the league than any position coach in the conference. So awesome name someone that’s better right now?
