Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

waiting for EL to trash them
I'm going to wait until an actual respected medical institution comments. JH spearheaded monitoring of the developing CV pandemic since early 2020 and employs some of the finest epidemiologists in the nation, but they are not too swift with TikTok and rely very seldomly on Google searches, so we'll see. . .

While I'm not dependent on NIH grants I work with and am friends with plenty of people who are. In many faculty positions you basically fund your salary with grants and if you can't draw grant dollars you aren't keeping your job long term. The NIH can put their thumb on the scale in multiple ways. There are more faculty needing funding than there is funding and universities live off of "indirects" on the grants (basically skimming up to 40% off the top of the grant for "overhead").

I recently heard someone say that no matter what the government does, even on the rare occasions that they have good intentions, they always make the gap between the haves and have-nots wider. I have no clue if that economist is right, but while listening to him I drove by two things I never thought I'd see in my little town:

Homes under contract for a million bucks and people living under the bridge in town.

I saw that statistic a few weeks ago and was shocked. Fentanyl is some powerful ish.

There was a bust at the Mexico border a couple of years ago, and I don't remember exactly the quantity seized, but it was enough to OD several million people IIRC.
That 13 year old that OD'd at school had over 100 bags of it in his backpack and at home. A dose the size of a grain of sand can kill you.
