The decision wasn't green lighted because the University reported it to the NCAA. I'm sure Barnes knows he can't pay players, and he now knows he can't write personal checks to his own coaches. He oopsed and learned. So you're telling me that Barnes's decision was presented to the legal department and they gave him a green light? Coaches can't pay people (staff or players) out of pocket. I don't for a second believe that he didn't know that.
Like Chuck Person ?So you're telling me that Barnes's decision was presented to the legal department and they gave him a green light? Coaches can't pay people (staff or players) out of pocket. I don't for a second believe that he didn't know that.
In fact I'll take it one step further and assert that having good assistants is as important to success as having good players.
Has Barnes been caught lying to the NCAA and instructing others to lie? What Pearl was caught doing at UT would not have been significant if he had not lied about it and tried to get others to lie too. He demonstrated poor judgment and irresponsible behavior by putting the program at risk to attempt to minimize his mistake at a cookout.Actually, after doing a little digging, you're wrong. Barnes has been caught violating NCAA regulations. Where else has he potentially slid around the regulations but hasn't been caught? As stated ad nauseum my opinion is they all cheat when they can get away with it.
Vols' Barnes commits minor NCAA infraction

How do you really know it was an oops?Again, you can't distinguish an "oops, that was a mistake" and blatant cheating. That's the problem. What Barnes did was an oops. Pearl cheated. Getting a parking ticket for running over on a meter is an oops. Killing someone is deliberate. Both against the law, but one was a mistake.
Paying those assistants is really going to get great players…like what’s his motive to break NCAA rules knowingly here? Also, I’ve never heard of anyone else ever breaking that rule. How do you really know it was an oops?
If you’re a Vol fan, then why all the constant negativity? Every post is a dig. Why not make your point once or twice and move along with general discussion? I get that you’re anti-Barnes, and so does everyone else. Lighten up and enjoy life a little.I was a Vol fan when you were still pooping yellow.

Like if he paid players, sure, but I just don’t see how paying assistants from your salary is really giving you a competitive advantage and why someone would knowingly break the rule there and have UT self report it.
There’s not a college coach alive who hasn’t committed a minor infraction. If you are involved in college sports it isn’t possible not to. I love Bruce Pearl for his contribution to building this program. But there is no question that he and Cal are on a different level when it comes to stretching the rules. It is blatantly naive to think otherwise. Do you honestly think BP didn’t know what his assistants were doing with the Nike mess? Of course he did. Just like Sean Miller and Will Wade. They knew too.Actually, after doing a little digging, you're wrong. Barnes has been caught violating NCAA regulations. Absolutely. But get back to me when Barnes gets a 3 year show cause or one of his assistants goes to jail. Then he’ll be in the same area code as Bruce when it comes to shady. Doubt that’s going to happen though. And again I love BP but a saint he ain’t. And I’m sure it won’t stop Louisville from pursuing him. That program has always operated in the gray areas.I'm positive they knew. I'm also positive that Barnes knew paying out of pocket to keep an assistant was a violation. They all break the rules when they think they can get away with it, and it has always been that way.
You called him a bad Christian for "leveraging". He didn't manipulate, didn't issue an ultimatum. He spoke to them, and the AD did what needed to be done to keep him. You made it personal, and showed your ass while doing so.did I say anything about him not being allowed to be interested in the premiere job in basketball? That answer would be no.
They knew, but "weren't personally involved"? So they're just stupid and willing?I'm positive they knew. I'm also positive that Barnes knew paying out of pocket to keep an assistant was a violation. They all break the rules when they think they can get away with it, and it has always been that way.
It's hard being content when the university hires a twenty win a year coach and seems content with that when the coach we fired is eating our lunch pretty much every year. I expect more than that.If you’re a Vol fan, then why all the constant negativity? Every post is a dig. Why not make your point once or twice and move along with general discussion? I get that you’re anti-Barnes, and so does everyone else. Lighten up and enjoy life a little.
1. UT reported it and he didn't lieAnd you know this to be fact?
Nobody is holding a gun to your head, you can leave. As I've said multiple times, you clearly are happier as a Pearl fan than a Vol.It's hard being content when the university hires a twenty win a year coach and seems content with that when the coach we fired is eating our lunch pretty much every year. How many tournament wins does Texas have post Barnes?I want to see us succeed, but the bottom line is that Barnes can't get it done. Never has and never will. There's a reason he's not in Texas anymore.
I don't know that I would ever want Pearl back, but he's a proven winner. The smoke from Louisville further validates that point, as does his performance at Auburn. Regarding "cheating", all of them are dirty, some just don't get caught.
