On This Day in History >January 28, 1779:
Fort Nashborough, now called Nashville, is founded
"On January 28, 1779, Fort Nashborough, now called Nashville, is founded during the American Revolution in response to Indian attacks on settlers in the area. After the Revolution began, many Cherokee and other tribes in the southeast joined the British against the Americans. Their motivation was to stop the American settlers' encroachment on their land.
The Cherokee, especially, played a huge role in the Revolution, particularly in Georgia and South Carolina. Not all Cherokee sided with the British, however. Many remained neutral and some were on the side of the Americans. Chief Dragging Canoe was the principal anti-American and anti-settler chief in the region.
Dragging Canoe led numerous attacks on settlements throughout what is now Tennessee and Kentucky, Virginia, Georgia and North and South Carolina. This conflict between American settlers and Chief Dragging Canoe and his allies stretched from 1776 when the Revolution began, to 1794 when peace was finally reached between the two sides. The whole time period is called the "Chickamauga Wars" and is named after the Chickamauga River where Dragging Canoe settled and had his base of operations.
What is now known as Tennessee was part of North Carolina at the outbreak of the Revolution. The mid-section of modern Tennessee had no permanent white settlements up to this point, although the region had been traveled thoroughly by traders and explorers. In 1775, Judge Richard Henderson of North Carolina purchased about two million acres of land from the Cherokee in what is now Kentucky and Tennessee, including the Nashville area. Dragging Canoe was firmly against the sale and mounted attacks on settlers coming into the area. Henderson's original plan was to create a 14th state known as Transylvania in the region, but the plan fell apart when Congress and the state of Virginia did not recognize the claim.
In early 1779, James Robertson and John Donelson brought the first white settlers to an area on the Cumberland River known as "French Lick." The name came from a previous French trading post nearby and from naturally occurring salt in the ground that animals would "lick," called a "salt lick." On January 28, 1779, the settlers built a 2 acre fort called Fort Nashborough, named after General Francis Nash, a North Carolina General who died at the Battle of Germantown.
Fort Nashborough would be renamed Nashville within a few years (to get rid of the British sounding "borough") and would suffer numerous Indian attacks for the next decade and a half until Dragging Canoe died in 1792. After this, his Indian coalition fell apart, a peace treaty was signed with the Cherokee and much of the remaining resistance was put down by the American army.
A reconstructed Fort Nashborough was built in downtown Nashville in 1930 by the Daughters of the American Revolution. The fort still stands today and has buildings constructed in the same way they were in the original fort. The fort is open for self-guided tours year round and has period actors appearing there at certain times to teach about frontier life."

Really like this guy, I feel like he’s a fan or at least wants to see us getting back to where we belong
I actually think he's an Alabama fan. He talks a lot about being at this Bama game or that Bama game before he got into radio. Above all else, he is a college football fan. He loves the sport, he loves all the teams that make the sport what it is. I love how he fires back at all the BS takes.

I just think that we as a fanbase are so used to any/every media outlet poo pooing us that any reasonable media member that has positive things to say about us must love us.

He's called Tennessee a sleeping giant for years and makes it a point to correct anyone that mails or messages in with anti-Tennessee sentiments. I appreciate him doing that work each day. He is unraveling the iron-rod takes that have been wrapped around this program by other media members and CFB influencers for the past 2 decades. At least since the dawn of Twitter, when meme culture and point-and-laugh humor directed at Tennessee became commonplace and mostly encouraged.

Even if he's just zigging when everyone else is zagging, I appreciate him not piling on with the "Everything sucks, but nothing sucks as bad as Tennessee" attitude that most in CFB have now.

Pulisic needs games and I wish he would go out on loan for the rest of the season because it’s not going to happen at Chelsea.

Attacking options at Chelsea right now are a mess. Pulisic hasn’t looked good in EPL since he went down injured earlier this year in one of the USA WC qualifiers. Now, he’s struggling to get playing time because others have passed him in that time. Plus with Chelsea’s wingback situation of James and Chilwell both hurt and out for a long period of tIke, he’s had to play some wing back which isn’t really in his game. He can do it, and do it fairly well, but he’s not good enough at defending to play there and do well against a Man City or Liverpool. If he wouldn’t have got injured, and Chelsea didn’t have the wingback situation they do, I really think he would have locked down the left wing spot. Won’t be surprised if Chelsea sell him this summer though, he’s just been too inconsistent and often injured. Probably best for him to get a fresh start. I know Klopp and Liverpool want him. I think he could do really well there. As a Chelsea fan I hope that doesn’t happen, but as a USA and Pulisic fan I want whatever’s best for him.

Austin Thomas pays no contract buyout now since he’s upgraded to *chuckling* Chief of Staff?
we laugh, but I've seen plenty of stupid titles in email signatures

This team reminds me of the Basketvols. I have no idea what team is going to show up. Tonight was such a lackluster performance. We’ll clinch a spot in Qatar, but I don’t think we make it out of the group stages. Pulisic has been a huge let down this entire qualifying.

They didn’t look great last night by any means but I do think if Pepi starts last night that’s at least a 2-0, if not, 3-0 scoreline. Ferreira missed that one cross that I have little doubt Pepi would have finished and he had a 2nd attempt that was a little more difficult but still should probably have been in the back of the net as well. Those were both in the 1st half. Those two go in and the game feels much different.

Going to need to step it up for Sunday though. If we can beat Canada, then we would only need 4 points over the next 4 games to guarantee WC spot.

I have been searching for this watch for nearly 20 years now. Maybe one of you morans can help me sleuth it out from a reliable source.

I found a site that claims to have one, but they use Dirhams, UAE currency. I have a feeling it's a ripoff.
