Recruiting Forum Football Talk IV

Getting open is one thing.. catching the football is quite another. Hyatt and Calloway have yet to be consistent with regard to catching the football. Hyatt had many drops and Calloway dropped a crucial pass that swung momentum back to Florida. I’m not sure either are longterm options.
There is a catching problem in all of football (NFL included) right now. Dropped balls all the time.

Jerry Rice must shed tears every time he tunes in for a game.

id say its easier to be one of the sheep on here that loves to complain about getting our butts kicked on the recruiting/portal trail and its worrisome and there is no plan and we have no NIL and why cant we get TN kids to want to play for TN and we have no recruiters and no stars and

It goes both ways. You are excluding the sunshine pumpers who perpetually have their head in the sand. I like to call them the “my husband beats me because he loves me” crowd. Honestly, both sides add quality input.

NCAA is loving watching everything go to crap with NIL. So they can swoop in when enough people beg for regulation. It was meant for kids to be able to make money off their name such as jersey sales, autographs, events. Etc. instead you have schools like Miami paying kids salaries under the guise of NIL. The one post where the booster listed like 10 guys he was paying $50k+ was definitely not the intent

I wanted Neyor more than anyone on this board. He was my avatar as soon as he entered the portal, before reports of our staff being all over him.

He stood out to me during their bowl game in particular when he was clearly the best player on the field.

He has great speed.
He has good size.
He can jump high, his hangtime is ridiculous.
He can high point the ball.
His hands are ridiculous.
He has playmaker ability in the open field.

Neyor would have been a beast in our offense. If we were going to plug him in the way that we used Payton, he would have been incredible.

That doesn't change the fact that we do have guys on this roster that can improve this offseason and be great. There is opportunity for someone else that chose to come here to make an impact. I don't doubt that someone(s) will rise to that challenge. We scheme guys open. Will they catch it? I hope. Will they be as great as Neyor in the open field? That would be hard to do, but I hope so.

This isn't like losing Hooker, or losing a 4-star transfer LB or CB. We have bigger positions of need. It sucks to lose a guy that could have replaced the production of the guys we have leaving at WR. This just gives someone else that we don't know about yet the chance to be the new man.
Do you trust the staff? They wanted Neyor. Sure, we have plenty of receivers, but the staff wanted Neyor. Why can't we just acknowledge that fact without it being construed as negative? Sometimes the truth is simply the truth.

Are we arguing about something? It seems like we're saying the same thing.

I was excited when our staff targeted him.
I was thrilled when he committed.
I was worried when he was still taking visits to Ole Miss and especially Texas.
Now I am accepting of the most logical outcome, which is him ending up at Texas.

The other side of that is, "Ok, we tried our best to get him, it didn't work out. Let's see who steps up."

Do I trust the staff? Yes. But then we also have things like Milton/Hooker, so I'm applying that experience to this situation.

What opinion? That we've struggled with recruiting? That's not an opinion. We've targeted 3 guys in the portal and missed on all 3. That's called struggling.

No, that is your opinion. You have zero information in regards to any of those recruitments. Those three individuals may have been offered something our coach can’t or maybe they were influenced by family. CJH has shown he can coach, give him little time to show he can also recruit.

People need to find a balance. We're going to be okay, but yes, we have a recruiting problem. Both can be true. The sky is not falling, our football program isn't dead, but there are obviously things that still need to be fixed.

Lets look at this realistically for a second.
1. We are under NCAA investigation and yes other teams are using that against us..
2. We have NOT been relevant in the last 20 years and other teams are using that against us.
3. The UT facilities weren't mentioned by some of the top recruits as the best they had visited.
4. Nobody knows for sure what the NIL is or how exactly the other schools are using it.

We have a new coach and a new staff that seem to recruit people that they think can play in this system and not going after every player that they might be able to work into it. We have a new way of doing business on the administration side, right or wrong it is different. Do we have the right people in the right positions, nobody knows but think about it, anybody that has really looked at what we have now and where we were a year ago would have to admit it APPEARS we in a much better place and headed in a much better direction. Back to the corner now with my Crayons and SKITTLES !!!!

I just want to see development and players getting better each year. I don't give a **** if they are 5 star or 2 star, ya get enough of them playing to their max potential and we'll win games.

Finishing top 20 in the '22 class with just 20 signed is huge very good momentum.

Lots of attrition and we're not built like Bama or Georgia to be able to have that. We lose high rated guys and the guy replacing them is often a 3 star. Hopefully we can stop having so many misses though.

It's not an opinion that we wanted all 3 and got none of them. That's called struggling at recruiting. The why doesn't matter. Divine intervention could be why they chose another school, but they still chose another school.

And no one is saying "fire Heupel".

both can be true, also only one can be true.

Absolutely! I told y’all that Austin just didn’t wanna get scooped

He could’ve come out and said “we didn’t want to report until 100 but we’re looking into it” etc. but to come out and say “it’s prolly a glitch lol” was so dumb.
