Gun control debate (merged)

No, I meant literal fun. His channel is one of the few I have set to notify me of new videos. He's the king of quality methodology.

My favorites are when he drag races his Winnebago to test fuel additives.

Lulz, you just hit on one of the most controversial topics among gun owners ever. I like his "scientific" approach, but there are questions about what kind of steel he is using as his test objects as that is subjective.

Regardless, any time you bring up "best lubricant" you are going to get at least 15 answers and a couple of fights.

Dick's Sporting Goods Admits Decision to Abandon Gun Sales Cost Shareholders $250M in Revenue - The Truth About Guns

That was “a momentous time in our company’s history,” recalled Dick’s then-president and current CEO Lauren Hobart, speaking at Fast Company’s Innovation Festival in October. But it certainly wasn’t easy. Major gun companies cut ties, and the NRA proclaimed that the retailer was “punishing law-abiding citizens.” Dick’s was also the subject of a sustained, if not broad, customer boycott. “People who are angry have a longer memory, perhaps, than people who are supportive,” said Hobart. The company estimates that its decision to stop selling automatic weapons cost it about $250 million in revenue.

lol.....There is no other way.
Yes there is. It is called a republic, which has brakes on pure unfettered democracy.

Our system was built with that in mind. 10th Amendment, Electoral College, 2nd Amendment, Supreme Court, Senate originally selected by state legislatures just to name some of the more obvious ones.

It's considered radical by some.
Roe v Wade is considered radical by some even though it is perfectly constitutional, rational, and reasonable to most.

My problem with Roe vs. Wade is it is a Federal solution. When having discussions with most people who are "pro choice" and who seemingly equate RvW with a lost 5th Gospel, once I explain my position that this should be left to the states and what that really means, most actually agree with me.

lol.....But all of those are based on majority wishes also. Look at the last few supreme court nominations, nothing other than what the majority of the majority party wished. Who picked the state legislatures?
It all boils down to majority wishes. Always has, always will, no other way.
There are a few built in speed bumps that the majority agreed upon.

Leave it to the states to the same degree that gun control is left to the states.

To an extent, I am in agreement here. My problem with the Obergefell decision was not about who could marry who, it was that it pushed more down the path of Federal control over everything. I do not like New York's gun control laws, but I defend the people of New York having it that way. At some point, as Obergefell was partly about acceptance of out of state marriage licenses, I can see where that decision could possibly be used to force New York to accepting my Tennessee carry permit.

Maybe there is a misunderstanding here. Your original post seemed to indicate support for pure democracy, whatever the 50%+1 want, that is what happens.

If your argument is that our country is a pure democracy and that is good, well, I do not have time for a philosophical discussion about the inherent evils of that and why our system was setup the way it is. You will be on your own.

All the talking points from the left lately are “we must protect our democracy.” That’s no accident. They don’t want people to understand that we are a constitutional republic.

No. My point has always been that ultimately society (the majority) decides.
