The Atlanta Braves

Put me there too then. You wouldn’t believe the **** I pay for

Oh athletes are overpaid, I’m not arguing that in the general grand scheme of things. But if MLB brings in $10B in revenue in normal years then owners can do better than 600K for league minimum AND paying minor leagues non passable wages. I still believe you should be paid what you’re worth and MLB minimum isn’t doing that by far (yes I understand about rookie scales, escalating salaries the more you play, etc).

No body wants to hear this but 90% of minor leaguers are good HS/fine college players who won’t give up the dream. They don’t deserve to be paid serious money, they should get a job. They exist so the 5% of guys who matter can have scrimmage games and the other 5% can stay loose for injuries on the big club.

I don't disagree with you, but if you don't have that 90 there's nowhere for the other 10 to go.

And when it was the 70’s, and baseball wasn’t a full time job, I totally would agree. But these teams can afford to pay a AA player 40K and provide them nutrition. That’s my problem. Baseball brought in $10.7B in revenue in total in 2019 and that will increase soon with new television rights. You can pay your minor leaguers better than 15K. And 15K is high.

Just because you are part of an operation that brings in billions doesn't mean you'll bring in a nice salary though. The bank tellers at JPM don't make jack squat. Ultimately you are paid based on the supply of people with your skills vs. the demand for people with your ability.

And I don’t disagree. I’m a capitalist. But I also believe in fair wages. Making below living wages for baseball, which in 2022 is a full time job whether your Wander Franco or Sean Kazmir. And they are getting paid below minimum wage. 40K isn’t a lot. Usually to be below poverty line it’s 25K-30K. I don’t see how giving them at least that is such a big deal.

Lol it’s their choice bro.

Sure. But it’s your only choice to play pro baseball in America other than semi-pro. Jesus I’m not asking for six figures for everyone, I’m just saying we can pay minor leaguers (who have to train during the off-season as well) living wages. I think we can pay them at least what a Walmart employee makes.

This!!!!!!!!! No sympathy. Get a damn job.

"Living wage" is a political construct/idea. I don't necessarily believe that regardless of the job you do, an employer must pay you enough money to live. If I dig ditches all day and then come back the next day and fill them up, should I expect somebody to pay me any amount of money for doing that?

You are right that giving them that much more probably isn't a big deal. But they aren't going to get it just because. The reason they make what they do is because the supply/demand dynamics of that job are not in favor of labor; they are in favor of management/ownership. And guys evidently are willing to get paid that much.
