No, the land goes back to the states that donated it for the intended purpose of the district it became. It goes back to those states as well as the deligates.So what's the argument against their statehood? Arguing that it throws off some bs political balance, is a political argument.
You cant deny a vote because things will change. That's the whole point. Our Consitution doesnt throw qualifiers in there on statehood.
The only argument against statehood is DC. Maryland and Virginia would have to agree to officially lose that land. No other state would have a voice.
