It really is. It may be the most realistic post-apocalyptic movie ever. We will probably find out in a few years.
I didn't get to finish it, I stopped it where his wife went outside in the cold, but yeah, I thought the exact same thing. It's brought up some things I'd never thought of that would definitely be a problem.
 
Fun fact about The Road: author Cormac McCarthy lived on Martin Mill Rd, a bit north of where John Sevier Hwy crosses. If you keep that in mind when you start reading, you can see that the walk begins from around that area, heading down through Blount County, on to SC/GA/FL.
