Yawn.Michigan sees record number of COVID-19 patients in hospitals already at breaking point
Several weeks ago when everyone was downplaying Omicron as mild "cold-like" illness. All you needed to see were the estimates on how contagious it was.
It doesn't matter how mild the illness is when millions of people are contracting it every single day. Give enough people the common cold and our healthcare system will feel the strain. How lethal the virus is becomes irrelevant when it starts clogging up the hospitals and taking the spaces from people with other health conditions. There will be thousands of deaths indirectly caused by Omicron from people who can't get the necessary medical attention for unrelated diseases.
What we're seeing right now is a tragedy. No one will take precautions because individual risk is low, but from a community perspective, this variant poses as great a threat as ever.

The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 reached record levels on Monday.
For the first time since the start of the pandemic, more than 5,000 people were in hospitals statewide with confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19, according to the latest data from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
Does anyone know the answer to this? You posted the other day that the CDC had recently changed definitions for vaccine/vaccination. Can you share more on that?
That he was appointing the ones that didnt make political judgements. If political views don't matter, then why were you trumpers so excited about Trump appointing judges?
I did not hear a thing. I only found out when someone asked me about it and I believed it to be "fake news," so I researched it. We were never taught this NEW definition of vaccines before. And, I certainly don't explain vaccines to my patients in such a manner.Thanks.
And did they (CDC) say anything about this? Press release or anything, or just made the change and went about their business?
What term did you settle on?I did not hear a thing. I only found out when someone asked me about it and I believed it to be "fake news," so I researched it. We were never taught this NEW definition of vaccines before. And, I certainly don't explain vaccines to my patients in such a manner.
This is why many of us have decided to call the mRNA shots something else, but not vaccines.
I'm just calling them "shots." Therapeutic is really more of a treatment for an ailment. The current evidence shows that they work to decrease the risk of hospitalization/death with prior variants. Of course, this would require the subject to have an appreciable risk (not true for children and young/healthy adults). So, more of a preventive treatment. What term did you settle on?

The jury is still out with this new strain, as severe illness and deaths lag by a week or two...
Bingo, although those really prevent you from contracting and transmitting the parasite. So, still not exactly the same.I guess I consider it more a prophylaxis. Like taking atavoquone or doxy if going somewhere where malaria is prevalent. May not completely eliminate the risk, but reduces the risk. But if you’re not really at risk, then is the prophylaxis necessary?
