The Atlanta Braves - Hello darkness

I’m not the one saying it’s a talent problem. That seems to be what you’re saying it’s not a good team.

Barnes is an excellent recruiter, solid developer of talent and gets his guys to buy into defense and rebounding. He runs a clean program, his players are good ambassadors and his reputation is well respected around the country. He’s a good program builder and consistently has top 25 teams. He’s pretty consistent year in and year out. His roots, southern drawl and Christian views also endear him to a significant portion of the fanbase.

But he also has an antiquated view of basketball with an offense that is too simple which good defensive teams can solve and he is too stubborn to change it which is why he’s never accomplished anything in the postseason and flames out early in tournaments his whole career. He’s one won conference tournament in 30 years as a head coach and made one S16 in his last 13 years. He’s continually flamed out in the NCAAT (especially the last decade+) because he won’t adjust to how important ball screens and three pointers are in basketball.

He’s a very good regular season coach. He might be “unlucky” (because that’s the newest excuse for Barnes) recently but you aren’t unlucky for 30 years. He’s perfectly fine as the head basketball coach at Tennessee. He’s overpaid but it’s whatever. It’s not my money. But usually you’re gonna say “nice season but could have done more” at the end.

You’re not following.

You said this isn’t a good team, seeming to excuse Barnes for a lack of talent. My point is even if you think that, then it’s Barnes’ fault for recruiting the talent anyways. I don’t think talent is the problem.

I'm following perfectly. I blame Barnes for it not being a good team. But at some point the players have got to start making shots. You can't blame Barnes for recruiting them and praise him for recruiting

1) you said it’s not a good team, which I inferred you blamed the talent level

2) Since you blamed the talent level and not Barnes’ offense, I asked then who is recruiting them. Either way the struggles are on Barnes. He’s the coach and it’s his program

3) For some reason, even when i clarified it’s not the talent level IMO, you keep insinuating it is. Come on dude.

Know I shouldn't argue with Z about Barnes. Barnes could manage to win the national championship by 19 and Z would bitch it wasn't by 20

National title???? I’d take an Elite Eight or a conference tourney title at this point

It's amazing to me how Barnes's best and most consistent teams were ones made up of lightly recruited guys who seemingly overachieved.

Since 2019, he's reverted back to his Texas M.O., which is underachieve with highly recruited guys. He's just a few games over .500 in SEC play since Admiral/Grant left.

There are some Vescovi takes in this thread that a lesser man would bump. Lucky for some I have great compassion for my fellow VOL brethren
