Banks on ND DC list

It blows my mind that some think they can fairly judge a fist yr coach who has not had the chance to recruit and coach his players. Our LB group is week along with the secondary plus Willie M hurts. I thought his play calling was actually fairly good.

This is VN. No coach gets any time regardless of the circumstances.

They are way worse this year. He sucked last time he was here too. Open your eyes.

Sure thing bud. The DB coach sucks. It’s all his fault. He doesn’t have a single player that would make the 2 deep for 90-95% of the SEC. But yeah take the easy way out and blame the coaches. Don’t blame the players at all.

No he didn’t suck last time he was here. You must have been asleep last time he was here.

Our defensive problems are mostly due to our personnel, and our offensive scheme, not bad coaching. Banks actually did pretty well considering those handicaps. The nightmare scenario to me would be Banks leaves and Heupel promotes Willie Martinez.

Whoa…that would shock me. My guess is that Garner would be first in line for DC job.

Banks is good, he just doesn’t have the talent right now. LBer is terrible, secondary doesn’t have much either, pass rush is none existent. The fact that we fielded an even decent unit is extraordinary to me.

As far as Martinez, I don’t care one way or the other. He wasn’t great in the past when he was here. Banks, Garner I would really like to hold onto. We need continuity and to add some talent.

Hasn't he said in the past that he didn't want to be a DC? Some guys like being position coaches. It's a different job, more teaching, and in today's world, well paying.

Well Veneables always said he loves being a coordinator. Now he is a head coach. Things can happen. But, I would think Garner has had plenty of chances to become a full time DC.

Blow up the whole D. Start over. Can't be worse. Get someone out there that wants to tackle rather than play two-hand touch and go out of bounds.

If Banks is wanted elsewhere; please let him go.

Three systems in three years will not attract talent. Good luck with that.

Our defensive players aren't 99th in the nation. People can blame players, scheme, or whatever else, but when your defense is ranked 99th in the country, most of it is on the DC.
Who do we have that's so spectacular on defense? Don't get me wrong. They play hard but the fair majority will never play again after they graduate and we don't have depth either. A lot of those guys played better this year than they ever have (ex. Theo Jackson)

I didn't say that they were "spectacular" but no less than 75 of those 98 teams ahead of us in the rankings would trade defensive rosters with us in a heartbeat.

Our defense played almost a hundred snaps a game with no depth. Any defense that plays that many snaps will be in the bottom half of defenses. When you add our depth problems, things get worse. Note how our stats get worse in the fourth quarter against quality teams. But here’s the kicker— we had terrible DB talent bad LBs and an ok line, with no rush. We had a serious talent deficit. There’s not a DC in the country that could put that talent in the top 25 of defenses when we have an offense that forces us to play 100 snaps. You’re just wrong.
Our defense played a lot of snaps because they suck and can't get off of the field on 3rd down....of course any defense that plays that many snaps are at the bottom half of defenses. That's like saying the teams that score the most points have the best offenses. If you don't think 75 of the 98 teams ranked ahead of us wouldn't trade defensive rosters with us in a heartbeat, you are clueless. Pumpers don't like the truth, but there it is.......We just don't have an SEC level DC.

Thank you!

Not seeing HOW people don't understand this. Did they not watch a game all season???

All anybody has to do is look a each Game Summary and look at the possessions:
- Result of possession (punt, fumble, int)
- Time elapsed

Ex: after leading Purdue 21-7, Here's what UT did the remainder of the 1st half
- Punt
- Turnover of Downs
- Punt
- Fumble

Result? Purdue had 4 EXTRA Offensive possessions with good field positions IN THE FIRST HALF ALONE! Four EXTRA chances to score!!
So instead of UT leading 35-10. 42-7 or even 28-17...
They were DOWN 23-21 going into half.

This is NOT DIFFICULT TO ANALYZE @Berry4Heisman14 ...

Theo Jackson and Alontae would definitely be in the 2-deep for most SEC teams.

Wow, I like the concept. But quite possibly what we need more than that as a program is an undesirable fan purge. Pretty easy analysis on that front as well. Running some +- analysis could prove interesting.

He may have and I just missed it. I thought he’d been a DC before but I just checked and he hasn’t, evidently. I am surely not ready to give up on Banks, anyway.
