Warren Burrell, Refs, and Tim Banks

Banks called a good game. We should’ve had 2 picks based on his play calling alone (Banks being the second)
Whoa.. Not sure how any DC can be credited for calling a “ good game” when their defense gives up 48 points, no matter how many INT’s they get. IMO, that was a pathetic performance by our defense. There were WR’s running open all night long in our secondary and Purdues RB was dragging our players an extra 2-3 years almost every carry. No way to justify Banks called a good game, but I can buy into the fact it’s hard to make chicken salad out of chicken sh!t

When your offense does nothing for 2 quarters to help the defense it doesn't help matters. This team deserved to lose but not in the fashion they did.
When your offense scores 45 points, it should be more than enough to win the game. We could have taken Powell High Schools defense to the game and done just as well

Yeah blaming the refs 🙄🙄🙄
Official conveniently overlooked a blatant holdong call of wr prior to the df attempt before OT….refs blew many and Im sure it will come out in a few days it will be axknowledged that “after reviewing game film yes rhe Vol RB should have been regisrered a TD in OT. Our apologies”

The play and the result aren’t always the same. For example what should have been a Jeremy Banks interception was a perfect play call but ended in a decent play (deflection) instead of a great play (interception). Just like when Heupel calls the perfect play and we drop the pass or overthrow it.

You have to separate end result and play calling if you’re truly attempting to evaluate play calling

Look ... TN was without 3 CB's .. forced to play Burrell, Hadden and Rucker .. Taylor, George and Turnage were out ... Burrell needs to learn to keep hands off and turn and run with reciever .. bad technigue ..

Once you see how the ref's are calling the game, you can't grab them even a little bit. I'm trying to remember, but every call on him for interference was legit. Someone needs to coach him when you're beat, the only thing you can do is try to tackle and dislodge the ball....or hope they don't catch it. He seemed undersized, and not able to adjust to game conditions.
That last call was not. When the commentators say something about a call you know it’s really bad.

Warren Burrell did exactly what he’s coached to do and what he’s been doing all season long. Pulling grabbing tugging hand fighting is all part of the dback’s job. It doesn’t always get called but for some reason last night the refs targeted Burrell and called every single one although maybe only one was blatant

A breath of fresh air and reason.
Its reasonable yes but Tillman had his Jersey stretched 2' from his body infront of three officials in regulation at the end. No call.... But the NCAA and Confrences have to make officiating better. Then the call at the goal linr blows my mind. Who calls progress at the goal line if a player isnt stacked up ? In overtime no doubt. This was as bad as the BS with NC. They committed a penalty and still got a chance with 0 time..... We were screwed of a chance to see what was next by an Incompetent Ref who has been suspended multiple times. That says enough

No he didn’t. He never rotated a safety over to help Burell and didn’t pressure enough. When we sent 5 after the QB we got to him and the majority of the night we rushed 4.
That was my complaint in the KY game. We pretty much never blitzed until their last drive after they completed the 4th and 24. Gee, how did that turn out once we finally did? 4 straight stops.

Now, I give Banks a C+ for the year. He had nothing with which to work and the D was better than expected at times. Don’t forget this is year 1 under a new system and the D players weren’t used to defending for as long as they did this year (or at all in the case of Burrell). There were times his scheme seemed really good. I trust CJH and if he thinks Banks works then so be it.

Yeah, you’re right - holding the opponent’s QB to 530+ and 5 TDs is awesome. My bad, you’re right

Ever think the talent in the field might have something to do with that? Basically our entire starting secondary was out.

Our DBs were getting beat all game. We didn't tackle well, we dropped multiple picks, and our DL got pushed around all game. That isn't a scheme problem. That's a talent problem. We played maybe 2 guys on defense last night that might have a chance of playing in the NFL.

Uh no. If you're beat over the top without safety help, PI is absolutely the better option. 15 yards is way better than 30+.

We need real speed in the back end. 33 needs to gain 15 to 20 lbs and find a damn replacement for Beasley. He is terrjble and nothing more than a body. For all the defensive specialists we had on the last staff that cupboard was as bare as a mange ridden dogs ass. The Secondary .......

And also spotting the ball at the one yard line before ball was extended at goal line before the whistle.
