A lot of people didn't really see how Taylor was that good. I think this is evidence - but I could be wrong in why.
When Taylor is in, you don't have to worry about him and you can rotate extra help for the other corner. That led a lot of QBs to target the nickel position, and Theo Jackson routinely made big plays (then Turnage when Theo was out). The opposite corner (Burrell usually) would still get picked on.
Without Alontae, it's free real estate. The safeties are struggling to help everyone - and Burrell/Hadden are holding and committing PIs every play. It's not pretty - but bend-don't-break.
