Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

Why is there a big focus on the number of covid positive tests? I'd rather the government focus on the hospitalization rate of the positive tests than just drumming up fear porn with numbers of most likely false positive cases.
Yeah, who cares if there are a million cases in FL if the recovery rate is 99.99%. Just a bunch of fear porn from the idiots on the left to try to make Ron look bad. That's all the "number of cases" stats have been about all along. Talking points for the MSM to make people that question the narrative look bad.

Is it true that Florida doesn't count a covid case/hospitalization/death of a person if that person is not a resident of the state? If so, soooooo many snowbird cases/hospitalizations/deaths are not going to be reported by Ron.
Nor should they. They took their own “risk” in coming there knowing the state’s policies.

It’s FL, the weather is perfect year round. And there’s no maybe, the Yankees show up in October and don’t leave till March. It’s the worst 6 months of being a Floridian.

As a prior 10 year South Floridian I heartily agree. I’ll also add that they can’t drive in Florida traffic/weather. It rains, the roads naturally flood and it’s not fun hydroplaning because the idiot up front panicked at a puddle. The bright side is that the Canadians can’t come down in hordes like normal and try to drive.🤦‍♀️

It’s the one thing I don’t miss about FL. Now I just yell at the ones passing through north AL on their way to Gulf Shores every Fall/Spring break and all summer.

Good news out of South Africa

South Africa recalls new isolation and quarantine rules

South Africa has recalled rules that no longer required people without symptoms of COVID-19 to isolate or test if they have been in contact with a positive case, the government announced on Tuesday, saying an amended circular will be re-issued.

It had also revised protocols on quarantine, saying all quarantine facilities outside the home would be stopped, while contact tracing efforts would also be scrapped aside from in specific scenarios such as cluster outbreaks.

The reason for the revision was based on a number of scientific factors including the fact that, most people have vaccinated with at least one vaccine dose and developed some level of immunity. This has contributed to the current low hospitalisation and high recovery rates, the department said.

Now all those protocols will be recalled after the Department of Health was inundated with media, stakeholders and public enquiries and comments following the release of the revised regulations.

Funny, FL drivers complaining about drivers from out of state. The only states FL driver has anything on is GA and AL drivers and it's still close.

Well this sucks a little bit.

The fear didn’t materialize as they wanted it to with Omicron so we have to go back to it being predominantly Delta. How did they miss sequence/identify the variant so badly from the beginning? That’s the question you should be asking of the “experts” who are “following the science”. I see two conclusions:

1) they completely made up the % of cases by variant, so they’re either lying, or at minimum not putting in the work to actually find out (which labs are on record of saying they don’t)

or

2) they’re incompetent at “testing/sequencing” (not sure of the medical terminology) for the variants and distinguishing between them. Which brings into doubt their credibility or expertise on any other facet of the virus

You aren’t wrong in this instance.

They had it wrong and revised the numbers. That's what they are supposed to do.

Doesn't mean we aren't having a surge in cases. Just means the percentage mix is different than expected at this point.

Why do people want to celebrate this kind of correction? It's like you think it proves they get EVERYTHING wrong because of this one correction. Like it justifies dismissing everything else.

It is probably more a factor of reclassifying what is considered a positive omicron case and throwing out the non-confirmed cases. They were using S-gene target failures to infer omicron infection (basically saying, well this is highly likely to be Omicron, but can't definitively say). SGTF accounts for more than half of the positive cases that have been counted. Omicron is here in force and is displacing delta while infecting the vaxed and unvaxed at an equal rate regardless of what the pencil-neck dweebs at the CDC wish to be true.
