Coronavirus (No politics)

Prayers sent to her and her husband. It really is amazing how quickly omicron is spreading. In about 1 week it has replaced delta in this country to become the dominant variant.

Omicron runs the spread even better than Coach Heupel.

Keep your compromised family and friends safe, folks. This one plays dirty..... cold symptoms/mild flu for most so they "power thru it" but still deadly and dangerous for the compromised.

How do people fare against omicron who had delta?
From what the CDC has been saying:
Delta was worse, but Omicron spreads to other age groups more effectively. It's more transmissible.

I've caught the 1st strain of Covid-19.
The Delta too.
I have Pfizer and a booster now.

It's real, but make no mistake this is mostly about money. A LOT of money. And it's a way to regulate human behavior.

My friend is in R&D for a biotech company and she says expect MORE variants l.

Thought this was an interesting tweet from Dr Paul Sax who is one of the most preeminent Infectious Disease docs in the country.

Now that omicron is causing most monoclonal antibodies to not work maybe remdesivir infusions which is an antiviral is the answer to prevent worsening disease in those not sick enough to be hospitalized but high risk of getting worse. The knock against remdesivir has been that it is now given way too late in the disease course when the virus has stopped replicating for it to work. Maybe earlier the better. And the drug is widely available now.

For people asking about natural immunity. Although they had underlying issues they were only 50 and unvaccinated and previously had Covid.

First confirmed US death related to Omicron variant was unvaccinated and had been infected before
From CNN’s Katherine Dillinger

A Texas man, whose death was the first confirmed Omicron-related in the US, was unvaccinated and had previously been infected with the coronavirus, according to a press release from Harris County Public Health.
"The individual was at higher risk of severe complications from Covid-19 due to his unvaccinated status and had underlying health conditions," the release said.
County Judge Lina Hidalgo announced the death on Monday, saying the man was in his 50s. The case is the first known confirmed Omicron-related death in the US.

And that's not allowed in this thread? No criticism of TikTok vids?

If you read the reports from around the world then you know omicron has the same symptoms as the common cold. That's not denial
It’s maddening. People are so Covid crazy that a minor cold has them terrified. Some will never return to normal

Day three of symptoms - sore throat to go with the runny nose. Mild fatigue. Hope this is all it is.....Also, hope I am negative by the Bowl Game!

Have not read older posts so don’t know if you said you had been to a Dr.
Two days after Thanksgiving I started runny nose, then sore throat, coughing so much my chest was sore, sneezing, mild headache and mild temp. I had just arrived in Florida for my winter stay and do not have Dr here so went to Urgent Care. Dr. did three different tests on me and of course Covid test.

Said I had sinus infection, probably because of just recently changing from colder climate to warmer Florida climate. Prescribed Amoxicillin 10 day supply and now ok.

our grandson, dylan, who had covid in spring was exposed to omicron strain friday at pre-school

she and i were both boosted

I received an email yesterday that I had direct contact on Monday with someone that tested positive yesterday. I am boosted and have no symptoms. Not gonna quarantine unless I start having some.

I’m boosted and have not felt great for a couple days. No big deal just don’t feel 100%. I have no idea if I’ve been in contact with Covid or not. So I’m just staying away from everyone till I feel better. Welcome to the new normal where everything could be Covid. Lol

Early assessment of the clinical severity of the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant in South Africa

Good news coming out of South Africa comparing the severity of Omicron vs the severity of Delta.
It looks like there is a lower rate in that population with severe clinical disease.
That is great news.
However if they are hospitalized, the rate of severe disease amongst those hospitalized patients with omicron vs delta there is no significance statistical difference
