He had a back injury for all of last season, and has broken three bones in his hand(s) and wrist. The guys body isn’t remotely as strong as it was two seasons ago. Add to that, UNCG playing four men in the box, and you get no stats. Look at his + line. He contributes at a top three almost every game. He definitely isn’t the player he was two years ago, and probably won’t be that again. That said, he does what can in spite of various setbacks.
He’s getting manhandled, poked, prodded, elbowed, pushed, tripped, and otherwise abused. That is the scouting report and I don’t blame teams for doing that. On the other side of that, officials are just letting this continue. The first two shots he missed yesterday, it really was amazing how much hard contact the defense got away with.My issue with Fulkerson is he has been moved to the 4 spot in a lot of cases. It's a position we all thought he was better suited for yet I have seen no development of a mid-range face up game. A pass and pop from 15 feet. He tries to back down his guys that don't appear to be working if he doesn't have the strength as many suggest.

He does not look healthy. Watch him off the ball, boxing out, etc. He will not take the open 10 footer. His moves around the basket result in air balls, or shots off of the glass that are not really close. I like everything about John as a person and a Volunteer. He has just not been the same since Covid, a blow to the head and multiple injuries.Fulky doesnt look healthy. He looks like he’s lost weight. Definitely hasn’t put on any we in a few years. Hope he’s ok
Agree. All the cumulative effects of the things you mentioned have zapped him to a degree. He does not look healthy. Watch him off the ball, boxing out, etc. He will not take the open 10 footer. I agree. That’s a Barnes critique more than one on Fulky though. As a team we’ve entirely dumped the mid range game based on stats, as a lot of teams have. It’s bad for the game in my opinion, but Barnes has been quoted saying the game has moved on from the short jumper. My issue with Fulkerson is he has been moved to the 4 spot in a lot of cases. No, his lack of competitiveness is. Noone should he constantly goofing off and constantly cracking jokes if they are the leader of their team and playing worse than they were two years ago.
I think somewhere along the lines you forgot this isn't the Girl Scouts. Maybe you should take up daycare, or write for Butch Jones' press conferences. I hear he won two games or so this year and is running out of excuses.[/QUOTE

Larry Bird told you what the play was, where he was going to shoot it, that he was going to make it, maybe even in the lap of the trainer (against Atlanta, with the Hawks bench going crazy, YouTube it) and then drill it, just like he told you he would. Honestly, I didn't appreciate Bird when he was playing, as much as I do, now. Of course, I hated the Celtics, Lakers and later the Bulls, being a Pistons/Isiah fanThis is just dumb. Different players have different personalities. Grant Williams smiled, patted players on the back, joked with refs and opposing players, and then played great basketball. Larry Bird was intense. Magic smiled and joked. They were both great.
A starting front court of JJJ, Olivier, and BHH needs to happen for this team to fulfill it's potential. Fulky needs to be the "energy guy" off the bench, he more efficient and effective playing 15-18min than playing major minuets. He has been on campus six years and hasn't improved at all, he still gets bodied in the post and has a limited offensive skill set, that's a reserve player not starter. This team won't be any worse with Him coming off the bench.
You can be the one getting manhandled or you can be the one doing the manhandling. He is on the wrong side of that especially these days. Injuries have took their toll on him. He’s getting manhandled, poked, prodded, elbowed, pushed, tripped, and otherwise abused. That is the scouting report and I don’t blame teams for doing that.
