Add those to Pruitt's 5, not 3, and that's anywhere from 15 to 20 National Championships combined. THAT'S the history that I have on my side. Not exactly. Those rural areas in the south are totally covered up by the dots. The general population is nowhere near that dense there.

Pruitt was clearly able to call plays for elite players taught fundamentals by competent position coaches. That is demonstrated by stat improvements at three schools. He had no clue how to do that himself. Those two things aren't mutually exclusive.

After much thought on this, I think this analysis of Pruitts curious career is spot on. It 100% explains his great successes and absolute failures.

I think therefore that a team with good talent and good position coaches might do well to give him a call if no one else is available.

His previous defenses were stacked but I've seen coaches flat fail with loaded rosters. His job was to run those and he did it well.

Otoh, we hired him to build 'em up and HC. As TN fans, it's obvious which were going to judge by. History will probably remember the successful DC, TN lure will always be the spectacular failure of the human thumb.

Yep….. Kellie has done an amazing job….. As fans, we tend to not be able to enjoy the present bc we are constantly worried about the future…. I was the same way especially during the 90’s….. I never truly enjoyed how special that time was bc I constantly wanted it to be better.

What recruits was he able to get as primary when he was at Clemson? I think that's a more accurate metric.

I think Heupel's highest rated class at UCF was in the low 40s, but we are likely to break the Top 20 in his first year.

Edit: to that end- Cincy 2020 ranked 41, 2021 ranked 45, and 2022 currently sitting at 28 after an undefeated season and CFP berth. National relevance matters as much as the recruiting prowess of the staff.

Have at it, no one impressive while at Clemson that he was primary on. For a guy who primarily was an offensive assistant he has a lot of work with recruiting defensive players though...which is weird.

Cool map. Probably a combination of 1) population density and 2) access to recruiting services to evaluate and rank kids imo.

Example: Poor kid from BFE Montana probably not going to be able to travel to a bigger city to get assessed, and I doubt Rivals is going to host a thing close to him.
