@VolsDoc81TX in my notifications liking posts from 200 pages ago...good luck Doc..lol.
I think this will be a offseason of disappointment.
This is where I am. Trust that we have the right guy in place and have some patience with him. It took a long time to get us in this hole and it will take time to get us out.Not disappointing for me, for everybody thinking we are gonna land some big fish and shoot up the charts.
I have said for a while that there will be no shortcuts back. Heupel is going to have to do it the hard way...the "build it and they will come" way, but also now with all this NIL crap, not only is he going to have to prove how good they are at coaching and development, but somebody or a lot of somebodies are going to have to pay big $s at some point if we want the really elite players that it takes to knock off Alabama and Georgia.
I got a little excited when @butchna brought some behind the scenes info, only to get that quickly squashed and back to where I was at before...if not even less excited.
Bottom line...there will be no "quick fix" for us. It is going to take a while.
Kaleb Webb. Tennessee is an excellent shape here as Kodi Burns and Alex Golesh have done a really nice job in this one. Burns has been crucial as he has developed a strong bond with the kid and his family. Tennessee is looking for receiver help with outside guys. Webb fits that bill.
Agu is a big athletic kid who liked Tennessee before he committed to Vanderbilt. Tennesssee wasn’t sure what to make of him back then but after a really good senior year, Rodney Garner has picked up the efforts and he is giving Tennessee a long hard look. Garner was by the school for a visit earlier this week.
M’ba who came in on Thursday night but his official doesn’t start until Friday morning. As Austin pointed out on the board earlier this week, we feel like this is a Tennessee versus Oregon showdown. M’ba’s mother is in from France for both of these officials. Now I guess you can’t rule out Auburn but she wasn’t there for that visit so just following that makes this a two team race barring something unforeseen.
Everything is trending in the right direction for Jourdan Thomas. The one time Mississippi State commitment backed off of that earlier this week and is set to see Tennessee again this weekend. Sometimes it’s as easy as 1+1 = 2.
Desmond Williams is someone that Tennessee has really picked up the pace on of late. The defensive staff along with head coach Josh Heupel visited Williams this week as Tennessee starts to climb in his recruitment. Mississippi State appears to be the biggest competition.
Elijah Herring will be back in town for another visit along with his brother Caleb. I maintain that the commitment of Herring will be one that is looked back upon as a big get when all is said and done.
Walter Nolen will play for the state championship later tonight and then head to campus on Saturday morning. Tennessee is very much still in the mix here but let’s face it we all know this thing is going to really get wild. Visiting this weekend means he could end up somewhere else next weekend like a return trip to College Station. We are most interested to see if he actually signs in the early signing period. We don’t believe that is a slam dunk at this point.
If that doesn’t happen then oh boy…
Florida commitment CJ Smith is at least intrigued enough to head to Knoxville this weekend. It’s a small note but the fact that the weather is supposed to be fairly warm this weekend is a good thing when you are recruiting your kid from the sunshine state. What Tennessee has been able to produce at the receiver position this year from a numbers standpoint has been eye-opening for Smith and again Tennessee is looking for help at the outside receiver spot.
As for guys who are not going to be in town this weekend, LSU commitment Demario Tolan will be back in Baton Rouge next weekend to give new head coach Brian Kelly a shot. Tennessee has surged in his recruitment and if he is not going to end up a Tiger then we believe the Vols are in the best position possible. Tolan has been one that loves the visits so it will be interesting to watch this one. Tennessee was in Tolan’s home on Wednesday night and LSU was in Thursday night. Vol head coach Josh Heupel is set to go in home next week.
As of this writing, Justin Williams isn’t slated to be anywhere this weekend and will visit Tennessee officially next weekend. Williams hosted the Vols including Josh Heupel on Wednesday and Auburn was in home on Thursday.
One player that was supposed to be in officially at Tennessee this weekend was Kody Jones but that won’t be the case. We told you earlier this week that Michigan had made a strong push to keep Jones and he is not going to be in this weekend. People around Jones maintain that Tennessee is still in it as the family needs some room to breathe and think on their decision but history tells you that the rule would be Michigan keeps him with no official visit to Tennessee. Will he be the exception?
James Pearce and Tennessee continue to have good dialogue as the Vols' staff was in to see him on Thursday. This is going to boil down to when Pearce signs in our opinion. If it’s December then Tennessee is in great shape. If it’s not then Tennessee’s chances go way down in our opinion.
Two defensive linemen that are worth noting are south Florida linemen Gabriel Jacas and Ahmad Moten. Garner was by to see them on Thursday and is working them a bit as other dominoes fall. Jacas is a two time AAU wrestling national champion.
With over 2500 players currently in the transfer portal, everyone wants to know who Tennessee is going after, who are they getting. As Austin noted Wednesday night, Tennessee is not going to be a factor for Jahmyr Gibbs. As for others, an offensive tackle and a defensive linemen make the most sense. We don’t believe there’s anything real hot with the Vols right now in the portal. In other words, we don’t think Tennessee is close to landing anyone and we think they are still very much in the evaluation process of guys. That doesn’t mean they haven’t had conversations with guys as they have. Certainly there will be some staff conversations about transfer guys over the weekend as everyone is in town for the official visit weekend.

I'm not panicking...why would you say that? I've been saying all year that this class was not going be great. I don't think we are gonna get any big names out of the Portal either, but I do think we can get some pretty good underrated/underdeveloped players that won't get insane $s thrown at them. What I got out of that was that they haven't really looked at who they may be interested in. I mean, the first free week they had they all hit the road. He was filling positions last year during the Spring and did pretty good job. Its just been the last week or so that they started hitting the portal. Not need to panic yet.
