Is the OU job a great job? They’ve had some excellent talent and played in a fairly weak conference. The last two coaches couldn’t win the big one. 0-4 in the playoffs.

Now, factor joining the SEC soon. The conference is a selling point to recruits but it’s not like they don’t get some top shelf guys anyway. No matter which division they enter, both are tough roads to win a division, much less a championship.

I suspect there are some behind the scenes drama similar to what we had here prior to cleaning house in the athletic department.

Anyway, I hope the hire a crappy coach who’s just good enough to stay a while but never be a big threat.

Maybe. I just don’t see how he passes on an opportunity at a better program with more pay.

I understand alot of people think that money is everything and if offered a ton of it you should "Go where the $$$ is". I find that to be a problem these days. There is no more allegiance to anything anymore. In my eyes also, South Carolina is a WAY much more appealing place to live and raise a family as opposed to OKlahoma. CSB is still young and has a ton of coaching left. I wonder if any of these coaches ever think maybe if they stay at this place and build it the way they want it and build a powerhouse that they could get a nice pay day and extra kick backs later on.

With Stoops being named interim coach, I believe OU is going after someone not immediately available, possibly a coach in the NFL.

Stoops is in place to coach them through their bowl game. I doubt him being there has anything to do with who they choose. Unless, of course he is who they choose.

It’s South Carolina. It was an uphill battle back before Clemson was big time in recruiting. Columbia isn’t fantastic imo but neither is Norman so whatever there. I’m not saying money is everything but Oklahoma can offer more than money. And yeah I think Oklahoma gets a reality check in the SEC but they still have way more opportunity to be a major player than South Carolina ever will.

SI says.... (and no CJH in this list!)

There are still multiple marquee jobs open in college football, none bigger than the one at Oklahoma. The Sooners are still looking for a replacement for Lincoln Riley.

According to OKC-KWTV Sports Director Dean Blevins, at least two of the most discussed coaching candidates this cycle will interview with OU. Blevins says Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell is expected to interview, if he hasn’t done so already.

Additionally, Oklahoma is reportedly waiting until after Saturday’s AAC title game to speak with Cincinnati head coach Luke Fickell. Fickell’s name has also been mentioned in regards to the opening at Notre Dame.

The other two candidates Blevins mentions in his tweet are Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables and Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning. And Coach John Gruden was seen riding his bike around the Norman airport yesterday afternoon.

It’s almost certainly looking like they will get Lanning. All the momentum has swung from Venables to his direction.

Their only hope is building on the success Riley had with QBs, IMO. The high-powered offense is why they've been able to recruit nationally. If they go defense with this hire, they could fall even further than I thought. They will have worst recruiting territory in the SEC and once they go 8-4 or 7-5 and all the recruits realize they are no more likely to make the playoffs than Arkansas or Kentucky... look out. They could turn into the next Nebraska.

All it takes is one Derek Dooley to tank a program.

With state lines not meaning as much as they used to, it is important to note that little ut is 200 miles from Dallas, and OK is 190 miles from Dallas and TAM is 180 miles from Dallas.... So they are much closer than the home state schools for every kid North of Dallas like Wichita Falls, Sherman, Denton and Paris.... Go check out a population density map of Texas.... Then all the other schools get their share....

If Fickell can win at Cincinnati, he can win at Oklahoma. Would hat to see him go there.

Just a random thought; Wouldn’t it be ironic and a slap in the face of TX if OU hired Tom Herman?

beamer's twitter looks like he's hard on the recruiting trail. i dont think he's going anywhere.
He probably knows what the rest of the country knows. Oklahoma simply cannot and will not do that. They just won’t.

And I don’t think it’s a lack of morals if he bolts for twice the money he’s making.
No, I think it would show the same thing it showed when Kiffin did it. It shows that you panic when the super hot girl gives you her number, because deep down you know that you would normally not have a chance with her, but right now she’s desperate. And then you get a little drunk in public once or twice, and **** up the bathroom on the regular, and you come home from the bar one night to a dear John letter. And then you spend the next 10 years wondering if it was worth it, while half of Volnation think that you were a God the whole time.

5 years from now they will be on Kentucky’s level.
