I just don’t see it. Not with Banks or Heupel. Not for lateral moves. They’re highly paid, doing a great job, lots of positive momentum in Knoxville and it takes a special kind of scum bag to leave after one season. Not everyone is a dbag like LK.
YesThe portal has some good talent in it but I’d be wary to build a whole roster around it. Guys who leave because of coaching changes make sense but some of these players just aren’t good or overvalue themselves. I think high school prospects are the way to build long term with a few quality transfers mixed in. Obviously Gibbs, Evans, Haselwood etc. can be solid players but most the portal is meh. It can provide depth but if two players are equal I take a high school kid to develop over a upperclassman transfer.
Pry is one of the best DCs in CFB. He is also one of the best recruiters in the country. Specializes in recruiting the DC and Virginia area. Hokies wanted a recruiter and toughness. They got it with PryIf you are going the coordinator route, why this guy? Why not Lebby?
And why not get a guy with HC experience - this seems like a very underwhelming hire.
I don’t think it matters where guys come from…. You search for all the talent you can get whether it is from juco… high school…. Transfer portal…Right now…. We need a few more veterans bc of the gaps in our roster due to the instability we have had in the past. The portal has some good talent in it but I’d be wary to build a whole roster around it. Perfectly saidI used to have zero opinion on the handling or this subject, period.
Coming back this year and reading details (from him) on which past kid got paid and exactly how much.. or what each parent received..?
Okay, it's possible all those kids or staff members just happened to volunteer private info, to a completely up & up organization with absolutely no involvement.. and for no apparent reason.
And that the only TN coaches he praised, were the ones fired for paying players, is all simply a coincidence.
Hell, let's just say it was all coincidence, why not. But how tf does someone act mad when they're the one laying out all the evidence themselves and act surprised when people draw the conclusion you lead them to draw?
It'd be like me giving very personal, UNRELEASED details on a crime and acting mad that people assume I, or someone I know, was involved??
Good grief.

Well we aren’t building a whole roster out of it so don’t worry. But you can add another couple wins to your record if you plug all your weaknesses with the best talent available from the portal. Teams like UT right now can get better a lot faster than they normally could just by the portal.
