Huh…? Much better than Theo? I don’t think so. Atleast not this year. Maybe he will grow to be better than Theo but he was not this year. He did have a good game though.
I disagree; and, that has nothing to do with Theo, everything to do with what I saw from Turnage. I'm super proud of the season Theo had, though. Not sure we've seen a better season from the S position in awhile.

I haven't even thought about him leaving, I learned about the full history with OK at the same time I learned how they treated him.

But I agree in the general sense. He definitely 'implied' but all these coaches just refuse a straight and simple "I am staying at __, let's be clear, I am not leaving".
They know until they see bottom line numbers, ya never say never.
Sneaky little bastards, lol.
I think coach is not the type of person who would do anything to jeopardize what he and his staff are building here. He wouldn't/shouldn't give any indication that he will leave. If he did, and ended up not getting an offer, or at least a better one, he's going to make his own life here very hard. But, he's also a good dude, and if there is the slightest inkling that he could be swooned away (by the deal of his life, most likely) he's not going to give that definitive answer, like we want, because it could end up being a lie.

I think he stays too, but I hate the uncertainty that comes with this. I do not fault him for answering the way he did, but absolutely see why he did.

FWIW, I didn't take this as a 100% denial of the OU job. I saw this as him repeating things he's said before, about what he's building here, and how much his family loves it, etc, etc. I'll rest easy when OU hires someone else.
He wasn't going to give a straightforward denial. I don't think he has any intention of leaving even if Oklahoma came calling, but he's going to make sure to keep that leverage in his back pocket as long as he can in case he needs it.

Why would anyone take that interview as a negative…. It sounds just like every single interview he ever gives….. I trust DW…. I don’t think he is going anywhere.
It's definitely a positive. But it's not the definitive statement that people are acting like it is.

I trust more in his GBO tweet from yesterday.

Man ya hear what ya want to hear at 4:40 he said yea to being here next year....clean out your ears

Coach is at a cross-roads. You could hear it in his voice. It's a great opportunity for him to get his thinking settled on his long term plans. It's a plus that right now his plan is a championship at Tennessee.

I'm not saying you're pushing players anywhere; I don't know that to be true or false, but, how many NPA players are looking at Tennessee in this year's class? Any? I'm also curious, who are the 9 players listed on the UT roster, and which coach did they commit to? I understand that UT has been a mess, and that recruits see that. I'm not arguing that fact. I also understand other schools have been a mess.

* @Weezer I appreciate your response as far as current players: Allontae, Bumphus, Elijah Simmons, Walker Merrill, Theo, Lampley, Javonta, Tyler Baron, the Memphis trio, Antonio Malone(PWO), Will Parker, Akporoghene, we helped with Ramel Keyton and Harrison Bailey because we were training kids at Marrieta due to Jake Wray transferring there from Franklin, Jacob Warren, Fant. They have all cm to UT under Butch, Pruitt, and Heuple. As far as this year I stated this class was a wash. Our 23 and 24 classes from TN, Ga, and Tx will be amazing.

Stoops is lying to Destin to get him, and you and I both know that. He's not a QB. I understand why some coaches do that, but if you're advising these kids, I'm not suggesting you push them toward one school or another, but I am suggesting you be honest enough with them to tell them that their futures are at other positions.

* Who care what anyone thinks of Stoops message to Destin is whether the truth orr a lie. If you had a better understanding of recruiting 101 you'd know 95% of recruiting is salesmanship and getting a kid to buy in what you sell. As Ky did previously with Cobb and Butch did with Jauan if you want the kid you say what they want to hear. I have told many on here a gazillion times recruiting in itself has no integrity. Either you do what it takes or you get lost in the sauce and forest in 3 or 4 years. Coaches get paid a very beautiful premium and none of us is responsible for doing their jobs for them.

Lastly, I think you get a lot of unfair name-calling and vitriol on this board, but I also think you instigate sometimes by continuing to talk about the past and how bad we've been. This is now, and Heupel and staff did pretty damn good this year. I would hope kids like the Wade twins and others would take notice of that. I think Tennessee is on the verge of something special.

Sometimes, these kids need a dose of reality rather than the fantasies, dreams, and utter BS that some coaches feed them.

@Weezer
See Above as I also responded within your post but it only highlighted this portion.

*All of what you said is true and but refer back to the last column. They saw it and it's been noticed but if the message conveyed in 1 on 1 isn't what a kid wants to hear then it means nothing. As far as a dose of reality that works both ways, reality is the past 10 years and a lot of instability with coaches in and out the door that outweighs this years 7-5 record with a staff they have very little relationships with. It takes time and as I said before the kids notice and 20 and 21 were a wash. Heup and crew hv to focus on 23 and beyond doing a lot of hand shaking and hugging babies just because one sided fandom likes something due to their allegiance doesnt make a kid love it the same.

Be dumb not to keep that chip. Tho he’s tight enough with DW to never really need it.

I remember seeing similar stats after we hired him from when he was at Mizzou. Deep down i kinda felt like it wouldn't work like that here. Like for some reason I thought we were the problem and we were just destined to be derpy on offense. I couldn't actually believe it until i saw it. It was glorious though.

Same. It seemed too easy and convenient for some supposed offensive guru to come in and just magically fix all of our problems on that side of the ball. But he did!

And I think he’s happy waiting at Coastal. He can keep winning 10+ a year, lives on the beach at a new program that has some great fans and he’s only gonna get paid more the longer he stays and is successful.

If I’m him I’d just be patient, he’s in a really good spot.
New program? Coastal has been around for a while.

This happening already is one reason, of many, that I'm not worried one bit. Josh Heupel is not Lane Kiffin.

If you haven’t noticed I’m jaded on college coaches. If Josh is different than the rest, it’ll take longer than a year for me to believe it.
