It's hard to screw it up. Use good fresh ingredients and play around with it. Roast the Tomatillos and jalapeños in the oven or in a pan. Or fry them. Try Serranos. Try a little of both. Try boiling the Tomatillos and not even cooking the peppers. Add more garlic.If you try that, please let me know how it turns out.

The Mexican restaurants here serve a "Salsa Verde" not made with Tomatillo.
