I've seen a lot of common core crazy **** but I don't see the problem with this one. I'm assuming they are trying to teach kids how to do arithmetic in their head, in which case the "make a 10" rule is pretty much how everyone does it. Either this or the opposite (14-10+2). That's what I was taught and it has worked out alright for me I guess.

Cincy has been needing to impress for a few weeks now. I'll give it to them - they win, but they wouldn't be getting any style points if this were BCS.
SMU has had a pretty good year and going undefeated is hard at any level. I'm not betting on it, but I have a feeling SMU will pull the upset or come very close.

That is exactly what all this common core crap is. The problem with it is that you need to teach a good basic foundation before you teach them the short cut. I went through this with my kids. Because I have an engineering degree I was made the ho to parent for math and science homework. I would sit down every week and goggle what they were asking for so I could then explain to my kids what they had to do. Very frustrating for both the parent and the kids.

What is the foundational way to reach 14-8? Count it on your fingers? I don't have kids but I'm assuming at that age most kids should be past counting beans on a desk and have a fundamental understanding of what subtraction is.

Venson Sneed given the git, apparently.

He’s been die hard Vols since he jumped in the wagon. Sucks for the kid. Recruiting is cold blooded.
That stinks….. I wondered about the kid bc it seem like several people decided he wasn’t good enough…. I hate it for him and was hoping he would have a good senior year.

I honestly don't remeber the addition subtraction part. The biggest one i remeber was multiplication and division. They had to break everything down into their parts and do it individually. They spent all week teaching different division techniques and had my son in tears. I told him just muscle though this crap then I'll teach you the right way. At the end of the week I sat him down and we went through traditional long division and he looks at me and says" why did they just not show us this... this much easier."

Good and blessed as my avi shows, 🙂. Just haven’t seen you post as much, of course I’ve not paid much attention. Grandmas unite! I’m gonna ride that for years. 🙂
Remodeling a bathroom at home and getting ready to move at the library. 😩 And nothing like those grand babies!!!

Why would the seniors have to leave to get their chance?
Webb is playing them above, what I believe is, more talented guys. Rewarding them for their time at UT. He didn't recruit the current seniors. Wolcott has taken a big step back this year. He took the extra year due to covid. We have some very highly rated freshmen and sophomores.

UCF must be extremely happy with their big time hire. I mean...Heupel spent 3 regular seasons losing all games by a combined 19 points.

And with 2 games left in his first regular season, The Great Malzahn has already eclipsed that by a country mile - already gaining losses for a combined 73 points!! Amazing accomplishment!

I don’t know. I’m just not that impressed. Especially compared to what LSU fans are expecting.
Can't tell if serious. Unless you're a youngster. Don't mean that in a mean way, but maybe you don't know their atrocious history:

UK football had 2 10-win seasons EVER...in 100+ years of playing football, before he came. He's already gotten them another with at least 9 wins likely this season.

And you can't seriously judge him in the same way at UK (regarding LSU expectations) without the highly important context of what a shizhole he's at. It's like James Franklin at Vandy or Saban at MSU. Give him top-10 talent instead of top-35 talent and it'd be intriguing. Not saying he'd absolutely kill it (or maybe he would) - but he could be pretty dang good there. Especially with his now evolving offense - he could give the West some problems iyam.

And UK would fall right back to complete and utter irrelevance. They just finished 2nd in the East...unheard of. As a UT fan, we should all be very happy if he bolts. I'm tired of these close ones...ready to start WHIPPING them like the old days. This would just accelerate that inevitably.

Yeah I do a fair bit of math similarly (more with multiplication, but sometimes with subtraction). Breaking things down to the nearest ten can definitely make it easier in your head, at times, imo. In the end, it's just another tool for people that think in that way. Not a necessity, but an optional tool.

I just find it weird how opposed so many adults are...when we are awful at math as a country...which is maybe why they're so against it 😄 Maybe it isn't such a bad thing...we can't be much worse in the area.

But overall the best thing I've seen them teach are things like "reasonableness tests". It can be amazing (especially saw when I used to work at a bank) how adults can spit out completely absurd mathematical output and just not think "hmm that doesn't make any reasonable sense at all". I'm glad this generation is at least being taught to look at things a bit more conceptually and ask if the output makes any sense at all, rather than just going along with the "output"...GIGO after all.

Just realized Toots leads Bama in tackles. Not wishing him well, but I think some overlooked a sizeable loss in him. If he jumps, places are saying he's a 2nd-3rd rd guy. Crouch is also 2nd in tackles for a really good MSU defense.

And yet we're still here headed to 7-5. All to say, I think we were about 1 stud in the middle from another win or two...maybe 9-3. Could have picked off either Ole Miss or Pitt with better LB/QB run stopping and Bama would have been in trouble without the qb run. We're really not that far away, despite some here thinking we're bottom in the SEC in talent. Don't believe that for a second. We're not that far away...
