The Atlanta Braves - Hello darkness my old friend

Doesn’t really fit that criteria but Bryan Reynolds would look good roaming CF for the Braves.

I still don’t know why Pitt would trade him with four years control but rumor was AA went after him pre Acuna injury

I’m on team Pache but I’d trade him as the headliner for Reynolds.

Acuna
Freddie
Riley
Reynolds
Soler
Ozzie
Duvall
TDA
Dans

Because Pittsburg is a poverty franchise and we have the prospects to get a deal done.

I guess that’s fair. I actually think Pittsburgh can be good in a couple years with what they are building but maybe they think by the time they’re good Reynolds will be close to a FA

FF not signing might be that final straw to getting @Florida Stanley banned for life lmao. Intriguing
Freddie is going to get signed, but predictable things are predictable . . .

I don't even think it will be a big deal. They were already paying him $22 million. If payroll is increasing, another $8M won't be a huge impact. I'm sure the 6th year is the sticking point.

Getting Freddie to $30M literally is just moving Ender’s $8M to him. And that doesn’t change payroll. We have to pay Soler and Charlie got a $5M raise but it’s easily doable from a payroll standpoint.

Exactly. It's all just a matter of playing a little chicken over the ugly year or two on the back end of the deal.

A World Series title and both Ender and Bruce Sutter come off the payroll. It truly is a great time to be alive.

So based off my research:

Braves have $54.5M committed with buyouts for Joc and Duvall.

Arbitration figures at around $38M

Pre-Arb around 3.5M

So $96.5M total.

If payroll goes up to $160M (which is what is was pre 2020).

That leaves around $65M to play with. Even if you give Fred $30M you have $35M to play with. Set aside $5M for trade deadline and it’s $30M.

lol . . . I just looked at Bruce Sutter's stats and this caught my attention. The Braves are about to have a guy come off the payroll in 2022 whose bio starts like this . . .

Bruce Sutter turned a $9M contract into over $47M

Bruce Sutter will make more than Ozzie Albies 9 year contract he signed in 2019.

Bruce Sutter will get a $9.1M installment in 2022.

He will make more than Austin Riley and Ozzie Albies combined in 2022.

I’d also try and lock up Riley long term. I’m not sure what exactly it would look like. I’m thinking 8 years/$80M-$90M (buys out four FA years). Make those last two years team options.

That works out to just over $1M/Save. Dude was the surest thing in baseball when they signed him and his arm flew basically flew off and they paid him for 30 years lol.

I need to see a little more out of Austin before they give up those cheap years.
