Do we know if the jury contains Vets or not? All I’ve seen is that 2 are first responders, 2 are pharmacists and 5 are choosing to wear masks through the whole trial.

A judge presiding over a criminal trial, should not be directing the jury to applaud a witness just ahead of that same witness taking the stand. It was inappropriate. This could have, and should have been done prior to the jury entering the court room.

Ah, so a bit surprisingly it appears we have a problem in that the only veteran with us today is a defense witness and as drawing extra attention to him would undoubtedly cause histrionics with some I'll forego my intended round of applause for those who have served.

You are missing the entire point. There would be NOTHING wrong with what Judge Schroeder did, if he had just done it before the jury entered the court room.

Have you ever sat on a jury? If so, if the judge had asked for applause on Veterans Day for any veterans in the courtroom would you have decided a case differently?

I guess maybe some folks think if he was going to acknowledge Veterans Day it would be inappropriate to exclude any members of the jury that might be Vets from that token of appreciation.

If he hadn’t said anything about it beyond “Happy Veterans Day” everyone including the jury would still know the defense witness was a Vet via his stated qualifications.

I'll need two tickets with return flights to Cancun and i really don't care how patriotic a nut like you thinks i am. BTW I don't have a problem with a judge honoring a soldier. I have a problem with him asking a courtroom to applaud a witness in front of a jury. It may seem trivial, but I think it was out of line.

Some of you people really will argue anything. Even Judge Jeanine Pirro of Fox News just said that it was the kind of thing which should be done outside the presence of the jury, but she did also go the extra mile to say that it wasn't a significant breach of decorum and, of course, Judge Bruce Schroeder is doing a great job.

It might surprise you to realize I understand the argument you are trying to make. What I'm poking some fun at is this idea that there's some great legal injustice in having a veteran pointed out as being a veteran and being lauded as such on literally the national holiday set aside to do so. Especially as the question of who would be included in the recognition was extended to the entire courtroom.

Upshot is I pretty much reject there was anything gained by the defense in this as any credibility as an expert witness is going to be established in presentation of bona fides prior to testifying and not a round of applause for being a veteran on VD.

Why do you need return tickets when you can just walk back across the border? Spend a little time down there with your buddies, you know the ones that are flooding across the border, they're friendly. They won't shoot your ass.
