We don’t have to win tonight. It sucks that we were up 4-0 after one and it doesn’t look like we’re going to wrap it up tonight, but you can’t put all of your eggs in one basket in a game you don’t have to win. No Luke tonight. No Matzek tonight. No Smith tonight. Game 6 is where you pull out all the stops, aside from Anderson.I understand down 7-5 going into the 9th and not using Smith. Maybe in the 8th not using one of Tyler or Luke if one of them gives up a run or two and the top of the order doesn’t do anything.
But 7-5 in the 7th with the top of the order is not Drew Smyly time.
Last year Snit went all in against LA up 3-1 and it didn’t pay off, and then we saw what happened. We don’t have to win tonight. I feel like everything started going downhill when Snitker ran Tucker back out in the 3rd and he gave up two. We absolutely had them on the ropes early and then we gave them back some life. Should have never been in that position. However...
Braves in 6
I agree that Davidson never should have been brought out for the third, but that doesn’t keep Chavez from getting hit, doesn’t change AJ from an off night, maybe doesn’t change any of this outcome. Let’s say we tie it at some point, just to see Luke or Matzek or Smith get lit up. We accomplished nothing and head to Houston, still up 3-2, but in worse shape. When you go up 4-0 after the first, it’s not the time to play conservative or try and get innings. Tucker should never have came out for the third.
It’s 7-5 and your offense has been great in late innings this year. You’re literally a walk and homer from trying this game. You have an off day tomorrow to rest those guys AND you have Max fully rested. This was the game to get.
