It says that two past Smokeys were hit by cars. How did they let the mascot even be in a position to be in front of a moving car???

When I was attending UT, Smokey lived in the agricultural fraternity house on frat row. Forgive me, but I forgot the name of the frat, but it was in a corner, right down from SPE and Pong.

It is true that Smokey's handlers are two AGR members, but Smokey did not live there. The handlers would pick him up on Friday night from the family that breeds him and then return him after the game. My freshman roommate was an AGR and was one of the handlers during the 1999 season.

I personally have a bluetick. I know when mine gets out she may be gone for hours. Its just the breed. They have a one track mind when they catch a scent. Mine actually ran in front of a car that luckily got slowed almost to a stop and just bumped her. The dog kept going as if nothing happened.

Just wondering if anyone knows the orginal bloodline for "Brooks' Blue Smokey"
I was Smokey's Trainer in the for the 96 and 97 seasons, so I have a bit of info related to the Smokey lineage. The original Smokey Bloodline was actually from a breeder in Kentucky. The past couple of Smokey puppies however, have not come from the original bloodline. Smokey is owned by a relative of the original owners (Rev. Brooks and his wife Mildred) family in N. Knoxville and is handled by 2 members of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity.

That very old pic of smokey and the cheerleader looks a lot like the old blue Gascon Hounds. They are very rare now adays. I would love to have one. I wish I could breed my blue dog with the smokey blood line. I am sure there would be some good money in it.

I was/am interested in getting a bluetick as a pet. Obviously being a huge Tennessee fan I thought why try and find one in smokeys bloodline.

In my exhaustive research that took me through ukc representatives, the original bloodline has not been tracked. Nor, as you've already pointed, has it been followed by UT.

UT's current smokey was breed out of south Carolina. In fact I happen to be getting a pup out of that litter in just the next couple of months.

For the sake of the breeder's privacy (and the fact thatTyping on this iPhone sucks) email me for more information at mincpest@gmail.com

Be glad to help out on the mascot's bloodline if you've not already gotten it.
FYI - here's a picture of my male Bluetick 'RR Touchdown Tennessee'. He's currently ranked #2 Bluetick in the nation, #1 Male Bluetick (AKC Conformation). He's a young dog, and still has a lot of growing to do (18months old).
'Neyland' is one hard hunting, coonhating coondog as well.
