When I saw it on the schedule I was like “who is the moron who set this up?” There is absolutely no benefit to playing a service academy who runs an offense you see once every 10 years. You’re expected to win but suffer if you lose. Might be easier to just hit defensive players in the front 7 in the knees that week.

The last time we played a service academy running the option one of our players nearly died. Probably for the best. We need cupcakes and Monken has made Army a tough out.

Peyton just made an interesting point about shotgun formations in short yardage situations and in the rain; says there are more fumbled snaps when under center- he likes being able to see the ball into his hands. Wonder if that’s why we’ve insisted on doing that so often.
I think there are a ton of valid situations for it and many coaches have seen that and gravitated towards it. But when you're less than 1 yard from the end zone and QB sneaks could get the job done is my only complaint. A full yard or further, I'm good with going shotgun.

I think Jeremy wanted him as an OC but Fulmer nixed it.
I wonder how that would have gone. Can't imagine Freeze would have stayed long as he'd have HC opportunities.

I often find myself pondering how each of our failed coaches could have saved their jobs. If Dooley hadn't lost Wilcox, 2012 is completely different. If Butch doesn't fire Lawson, maybe all the injures in 2016 never happen. If Pruitt...well, I don't know that anything would have saved Pruitt.

The conference nixed it

There's a generalized fear surrounding bringing Freeze back in that has nothing to do with football directly. I think the conference fears that Freeze has enough skeletons to get everyone in trouble along with him. Slive didn't like Kiffin at all when he left and made very public remarks about it but after a few years he was forgiven. Same might happen for Freeze one day but IDK. For some reason, Freeze is treated by those who know him better than the rest of us as radioactive which tells me they probably think he was doing far worse than what he's been publicly accused of and beyond that they are afraid it will come out and more than just OM and Freeze would be hit.

People forget more than one school was involved in donating cash for Cam and the Albert Means mess went well beyond Bama. Most of the recruits Freeze took he took from teams like UGA and BAMA but others, including us were in on some of them.
