If someone can generate hope of a new coach after all the crap we've swallowed, more power to them. Cynicism, and pessimism has been the right call with the last 3 head coaches and I don't fault anyone for taking a wait and see approach.
We look better as a team in the first two games than anytime since Butch with Dobbs/Derrick Barnett/Berry. And it may be too early to know for sure, but it seems we don't have Dobbs or Barnett caliber players on this squad.

I am trying to take each coach as a stand alone and give a fair, dispassionate assessment of what's I see independent of what I saw under other previous coaches.

I gave Heupel a fair shake till he trotted miltons happy ass out there a 2nd time....

There are games that we "know/expect" to lose at this stage...but at SOME POINT you have WIN 50/50 games. TN could've and should've won this game....which would've gone a LONG way towards building fan optimism!

You may want to switch teams or turn the TV off for a while, then. That's exactly what it'll look like to climb out of this. There is no instant, easy button.

I've found most of the folks who are overly harsh are typically against CJH's hire from the beginning.

He is a Boerboel Mastiff. They are from South Africa. Boerboel means Farmer's Dog. Ranchers bred them to protect cattle from Leporids, Lions and poachers. He is the smartest dog I have ever owned. Not to mention how strong he is. He weighs 145 lbs and is still growing. He is very protective at home but is a gentle lamb when he is in town with me. I wish I could get the kids to mind as good as Bruno does. SMH

Well, honestly, I am pretty dam miserable when it comes to Tennessee football. I don’t get on here and blast players or call for coaches to be fired but people can only take so much. With that said, I saw a ton of positives in the Pitt game and over the last few years, where I would usually get angry, this game just disappointed me, because we had a real opportunity to lay down a program foundation win but instead, found a way to give it away.

The Pitt quarterback is a Super Senior coming back to improve his draft stock to a second rounder. I think he will be one of the better quarterbacks we play this year, probably around 4th best. The others will certainly be NFL bound and high draft picks.

What I noticed in watching the game in Neyland and then later on TV today is that we have a very well coached team. The penalties are a little concerning but I think that gets worked out. Our Special Teams was excellent for sure and Ekeler is a heck of a coach. The creativity on offense is refreshing and is the best offensively coached team since Lane Kiffin. I think Heupel is even a better offensive mind than Kiffin and without the stupid and juvenile behavior.

Certainly there is a lot to "clean up" but this team actually fights and plays hard. There are issues at quarterback but I truly think if Mays, Evans, Small, Hyatt, Milton or Hooker play the full game we win. I like Milton and think he is a real weapon once he gains some touch, and I think Hooker played a good game but it took him a little while to get warmed up. Milton has two (2) more years to improve.

The point I am trying to make is that we have good offensive coaches with a wining scheme and defensive coaches that have dramatically improved our defense over what the defensive guru was doing in previous years.

What Heupel doesn't have right now is Drew Lock, but when he gets his quarterback either from high school, transfer portal or by development watch out, I think teams are going to have to score 40+ to beat us each game.

All of this takes time and patience, but I for one like what I am seeing even if was in a loss.

Heupel shows a lot of early promise. Everyone is disappointed after a loss, especially with as much losing as we have done over the past 14 years, but Heupel and his staff seem like a massive improvement over what we have had. He must recruit better to upgrade the talent. Get past the NCAA mess that the Bama saboteur inflicted upon us. But the actual coaching that he and his staff are doing seems to me to be the best that we've had in quite a while.

It’s still early with a totally new scheme and in the season.. I hope things clean up a lot. There were definitely positives in the game. The most encouraging thing I saw was the fight the team had for 4 quarters. The opposite of the Dooley years

We shot ourself in the foot! 1st and goal at the 5 and get 40yds in penalties to settle for a field goal. 100yd kick return penalty called back, 3rd down bad spot Heupel should have ask for a review: we go on 4th down and Hooker should have kept the zone read for a TD however play gets stuffed for a loss. The team is worlds better but 3 turnovers and 150yds in penalties they cannot overcome!

I was aware of Boerboel's, have never seen one in person. Great looking dog.
