Milton was the sole reason I am disappointed, minus the dropped pass by Hyatt.

I bet you Hyatt bounces back though. Velus HAS to be better. Need to get a TE involved. Evans and small looked solid. Wright goes down when you breathe on him. Pass protection was pretty good. Run blocking got better as the game went on.

Defense needs to create takeaways to be successful. No excuse letting their QB pick us apart. Run defense was good. Young coming back will help. Bent but not break in redzone. Big drop off at LB, not much depth there.

Special teams were solid. Impressed by lack of penalties when starting a brand new system and scheme.

Still on track for 5-7 imo

Onto week 2.
I think Velus just wasnt 100% and they were playing it slow with him.

Agree with you about Milton not having a good game but disagree about the Tillman throw. It's fine to give your big 6'3 receiver a 50-50 ball to win against the undersized and less athletic corner
I agree..that was a good play. You have to give those big dudes one on one jump balls like that..that is why you have big WRs like Tillman.

I could see receivers preferring someone that doesn't throw 90 MPH fastballs at them...much easier to catch a softer throw. If Milton can get better at touch passes, I think he will be fine. I also saw him go through progressions multiple times last night.

Defense looked like they knew their assignments and played fast, unlike last year. Running game looked really good. Half time adjustments that worked! Overall, looked better out of the gates than the past 2 years. I'm really interested to see how much progress we make before the next game.
Receivers would never admit that they don’t like trying to catch fastballs, but you’re probably right. They’re SEC receivers… it’s their job to catch the ball, no matter how fast it comes at them

I don’t think anyone is saying Pittsburgh is great, but they’re the ‘85 Bears compared to that Bowling Green team. They have actually D1 linemen on both sides of the ball.

This right here also causes a lot of consternation for me:

There is no doubt that UCF team in 2019 was better than this current UT team. Pitt knows the recipe for this offense and knows how to beat it.
They did have a great defense that year...and Hype still put up 34 on them. In fact, that's the most anyone scored on that team all year. They held a 36 ppg Penn St squad to a measly 17 pts.

No way their defense is 2019's. They lost too much imo. And the year before that Hype put up 45 on them. That's about 40 pt average over 2 games.

Pitt knows the recipe my a**.

You think that UCF (or any UCF team ever) had more talent than this UT team?

The people that are so upset this morning are the same ones who tried convincing themselves and everyone else that Milton was the next coming of Cam. Those same people do nothing but try and tell themselves we will win 8-9 games each year too.

We are a 5-6 win football team. Period. Nothing that happened last night changes that.

My biggest concern right now, is that our staff went with Milton because of the tools, not necessarily because he is the best QB.

If that is the case, and he struggles next week, I hope that Heup will pull him and give HB a shot.

Eh...kind of agree and kind of disagree. I do think the physical tools played a large part in why they went with Milton. I also think had Bailey or Hooker been better in practice, Heupel would have gone with one of them. My belief is that none of the quarterbacks really separated themselves with their fall camp performances, so all things being pretty equal, Heupel opted to go with the guy who has the most upside which makes sense to do.

We'll see what happens going forward, but I think it's pretty clear at least for now that Hooker would be the next guy up if they go away from Milton, not Bailey.

Agreed. None of those drops were uncatchable because of the speed. That said, Milton has got to learn some touch. JG did the same thing, everything doesn't need to be a bullet, especially when we start throwing to the RB more often.

Not that it matters, but after watching the highlight reel again, Josh Dobbs would have housed at least 2 of those QB draws that were ran last night. Joe looks good running the ball when he just runs. He also controls the pocket well.. a little too well at times causing him to hold onto the ball too long.. he doesn't have much of a wiggle to him though
