I watched the opening two drives again. Those were really impressive.

And Milton showed burst on his runs on those two drives - some designed QB runs and he flashed some speed.

I don't think he gets to full speed very often - he is more methodical. Doesn't want to get hurt maybe?

But those drives were very good.

I wonder if the first two drives were scripted and the others weren’t.

I saw someone on Twitter say we only run like 8 pass plays in a game - and that’s been the case with Heupel wherever he’s been. They find a matchup they like and go after it over, and over, and over.

Dobrucky's uncle said that Milton wasn't the best QB on the roster and that everyone is shaking their heads why he was the starter. He said Bailey was the clear best QB on the roster. Something like that.

My observations:

Bowling Green, so Everything is considering the opponent.

1. Heupel and staff all looked confident as though they were in control and have done this before. Pruitt was always unpredictable. I liked how he interacted with Milton… I think after the fumble. Calmly talked to him, coached him and encouraged him.

2. The team was lined up and executed. Few penalties. No misalignments and running around trying to get set. Once again, it looked like they knew what to do and actually did it. It’s amazing that this is noteworthy

3. Milton. No footwork, held the ball for too long. Twice he motioned for the WR to cut downfield to the end zone which looked just like backyard football. Arm strength is nuts but not enough loft on it. Hopefully he grows

4. Both lines dominated

5. I’m always worried about JUCO players. Evan’s really looked like he’s got juice. Small is good too. I hope Eric Gray follows our season and wonders “what if”.

So that's why they ran 88 plays vs Heupel in their last meeting? Lol. All the facts are against this notion, unless they suddenly changed their offensive philosophy since the last 2 years.

Both teams get the same number of possessions...ball control doesn't change that. Unless you think you're greatly overmatched and need variance ratcheted up to 100, you just play to your optimal style. Playing keep away does no one any good, you still get 1 possession and then they get 1 possession and so on...

Sounds like you've got it figured out. Hope we get to run a lot of plays.

WR's need a lot of work and Calloway and Key need to get healthy and in the game ASAP.

Another point about his laser passes. . . they may be causing a bigger issue than originally thought.

Knowing he has such a strong arm causes him to hold the ball a second longer, because he knows he can zip it 60yds on a line. He needs to identify his target sooner and throw with more touch, put a little loft on some of his throws. If he keeps holding it, flat-footed and motionless, he's gonna give up a lot of sacks in the SEC. It may be hard to correct for him, since he's always had that arm strength to play with.

I would have 0 issue with Heupel giving Bailey or Hooker a go, if Milton can't get away from those habits.

I remember when we had a QB that was clearly the best option and the staff tried to RS him two years in a row.

I've heard this as well. They want to give HB a year to develop. I like that actually, if it can work out. But if Milton can't throw the football, we don't have that luxury.

On Tillman’s touchdown catch, that DB made a critical error by not high-pointing it like Tillman did.

What if that pass to the flat was picked off and returned for a TD, which it would have been in a SEC game? What if Tillman doesn’t go over the DB to make a spectacular catch and that ball is intercepted like it should have been? If those outcomes changed, we would be screaming for a new QB today.

I'm not sure either of those passes is intercepted in an SEC game, even the pass into the flat given how hard it was thrown.

My biggest concern right now, is that our staff went with Milton because of the tools, not necessarily because he is the best QB.

If that is the case, and he struggles next week, I hope that Heup will pull him and give HB a shot.

Sure, that makes sense.


If Milton is another JG, a practice warrior that fades when the lights come on, then I'm sure Heupel will see it and make a change. But in no way do I believe Heup is favoring Milton if someone else is actually doing better in practice. I think Heupel is more intelligent than Pruitt, especially when it comes to QBs.

I hope all of our QBs succeed and will ride with whichever one this staff decides to run out on that field, but I think some already have a love affair with Bailey and seem to be hoping everyone in front of him fails so he'll have a chance to get out there and prove them right.

If the fans know more than the coaches, then we still don't have the right coaches.

What happens when people think you'll win by 60, just because. People get overinflated expectations and then turn on others because of their own expectations. Maybe they should wonder why they were 25 points off from the Vegas spread, people that actually put their money where their mouth is.

I'll be honest... I don't think Milton has some major issue.

Feel like the bulk of what I saw was rust more than anything else. Last game was November last year against Penn State, no spring ball and had to repair a torn ligament in his thumb on his throwing hand. He didn't seem to "trust" what he was seeing is really what I thought it came down to. And that'll be fairly easy to sort out in the film room.

Practice reps will never be the same as full speed game reps.

No, but I do believe that it is possible for a coach to fall in love with a guy who can throw it 80 yards effortlessly and think that he can use those tools to create big explosive plays, verses playing the guy who doesn't have those tools, but who is effective in the offense. Wow, crazy, I know. It's almost like Heup has done that before. Oh yeah, when he started Wimbush in 2019 at UCF before making the switch to Dillion Gabriel and the rest is history.

So you're choosing to believe Tennessee still has the wrong coaches? Because if the staff is purposely not playing the best QB, or not recognizing who the best QB is, then we obviously still have the wrong coaches. Where does Uncle Dobrucky coach?

Did you watch any of his Michigan tape? He never trusted what he saw there either.

He probably is what he is; perhaps he can get a little better around the edges, and he is better than what we saw last night, but I'd be surprised if a light bulb goes off and he starts consistently hitting those timing/anticipation throws down the field. If he does, then Heupel is a hell of a coach.

It's not that difficult. People are worried because Joe Milton looked terrible last night. Really simple to understand. If he plays like that next week, we will lose and we will lose handily
