Ohio state will likely have a highly talented transfer Quarterback available going into next offseason. Wether that be 5 star Kyle McCord or Ewers who’s the #1 player in the 2021 class… my bet is McCord likely is out the door. Talking about talent. That kid has some talent and can see the field really well. We’ll have some options
Sarkisian will go after him.

First time back here in a while.

My impression of the game last night is that we played okay. Not good, not bad, but okay.

Our defense did its job. They were able to dink-and-dunk us with their short passing game a bit, but their running game never did much. Side note: Bowling Green's offensive system is boring as s---. Slow, safe, and methodical.

On offense, I thought Evans was very good once he shook out the jitters. In the first half, he looked hesitant and indecisive. In the second half, he dominated. Small had a solid game too, but I think Evans is our best offensive weapon. Not a big fan of our receivers. Tillman was behind the defense all night, but Milton doesn't appear to have the touch to hit him very often. Hyatt needs to clean up the drops.

Speaking of Milton, I'm hoping that he's closer to the guy who started the game than the guy who finished it. He looked solid in the first quarter, going through progressions, hitting his receivers. Then he completely lost his mojo. Needs to make quicker decisions with the ball and put some air under some of these throws - not everything has to be a laser.

Good to have football back, and good to be 1-0. After losing to Georgia State in 2019, I'll never take that for granted again. Go Vols.

No, but I didn't begin that high either. 6.5 wins looked good before, still ok now. Pitt game will tell us a lot more.

But even if we're shaky vs Pitt - again this is Y1. A season for making progress and development...implementing all new schemes on both sides. When does Y1 in a scheme ever go smoothly? So we may not be a 7-5 team next week, but that's not all that matters. We just need to develop into a 7-5/6-6 team by end of the season.
I think 5 wins is more probable now, but that is just because my concern about depth looks well founded. There will be injuries, and they will cause problems.

His accuracy isn't great and likely never will be; I think what you saw at Michigan is what you'll get here. However, speaking about just last night's game, if just 2 plays went differently the narrative right now would be really different.

If Joe took a little juice off one of the deep balls, and if Hyatt caught his second drop, the final score is 49-6 and everybody would be feeling much better.
But...those things did happen.

But...like I also said earlier, when they don't, we will look like a combine cutting through an Iowa cornfield.

Okay, let's talk positives:

What is the best thing you saw last night???

For me, it was Jerome Carvin. That dude was an animal and played hard and mean and through the echo of the whistle. I saw him pile at least 3 guys at the whistle and I LOVED IT.
Defensive line. They were aggressive. Our starters loved in the backfield when they were all in.

It’s also hard to run this fast with so few offensive linemen. Those guys get gassed quickly.

In addition to that, because we go so fast on offense, I think you’ll see the opposing offenses go slow and keep our defense on the field as long as possible. Bowling Green did it last night - the only difference being their offensive linemen were not big enough to run the ball effectively.

Pitt will tell us everything we need to know. It’s definitely a winnable game but we’re going to have to be near perfect in the passing game.

Heupel will be here for minimum 5 years. None of these QBs are truly his guys. I expect Milton to improve and overall QB play to improve every year. He’s proven he knows QBs this year is just patchwork. I wouldn’t be shocked to see us get another transfer in the off-season.

Yep, this admin made a long-term commitment to stability and a "right way" rebuild, so the entire staff feels confident in their job security. Milton is CJH's guy. He recruited him hard at multiple stops and thinks his skillset is a good fit for his offense. He'll continue to develop, as will Hooker and HB. We also have Jackson coming in. There was always going to be a learning curve with this many new parts.

I liked how Banks was constantly communicating with other players pre-snap and the guy isn’t afraid to lay the wood. I thought he played really well overall.

Everything with Milton was always qualified with an “if”. “If” Heup can coach him up/get him to his potential then Milton could be special. Next week is a big game for him and this team.

Personally I was happy to see Aaron Beasley get some meaningful snaps and show up, almost snagged a pick 6 too was just a half second late to break.

I know, but we're talking about just 2 throws, and one of those things wasn't even Milton's fault. We ran almost 90 plays...if just 2 of them had a different outcome the narrative about Milton/the offense/the entire game is totally different.

It isn't like I'm saying "Man, if Milton was more accurate on about 12 throws he would have looked pretty good."

Not picking on you, but I have seen this type of post several times and I think it is BS. Yes, Hyatt dropped a couple he should have caught( one of those was a rocket behind him but still should have been caught) but Milton was not good at all last night. That Tillman TD pass should never have been thrown. We could have won 70-0 and Milton would still have looked very bad.

Not only was there not touch on any passes, but he puts zero arc on deep balls. That means he has to be precise as the WR does not chance to adjust to the ball. He doesn’t seem to see the field well at all. Last night he waited for people to get open instead of throwing them open. Even when we had people open, he didn’t seem to see them. We he did decide to run, he seemed hesitant and not sure of what he was doing.

I know this was his first game in this system, but I expected much better from a guy going on his 3-4th year in college football. Very disappointing.
I hope he can correct some of it. If not, I hope the coaches move on to the next QB.

I haven't said and am not saying that Milton was great. I'm saying if the outcome on 2 throws was different, we're talking about how the offense looked pretty good.

Watch the 2nd quarter of the BGSU game. Pitt is content to run a whole game like that, playing keepaway from our offense and controlling the game.

If Milton continues trying to hold the ball for 5 seconds behind the line, it's going to be rough. He's got to throw it or take off after 3 seconds.

This is absolutely correct. We lose by probably 2 TDs if we play Pitt like we played last night.

Agree with you about Milton not having a good game but disagree about the Tillman throw. It's fine to give your big 6'3 receiver a 50-50 ball to win against the undersized and less athletic corner

The mood & energy in here is as if we lost. We won by 32 points, I know some are upset we didn’t hit 40,50 points but in previous seasons this game probably would’ve been a lot closer then needed to be. Heup called a very basic offensive game and didn’t show his hand much. This team is a working progress, and with 9 days til Pitt, Milton and the rest of the team will improve and be better. Heup & Golesh will unleash more of the playbook as they understand how important that game will be to win
It's a trauma response. Recovery from BVS requires emotional titration. It will come.
