The Official CoronaZoneVirus Thread

Sons first grade class is quarantined because of a positive in the class. This year they made it a week to start school, last year in kindergarten it was after the very first day of school. Over this sh@t!

Daughter's class is on virtual learning this week. Got another positive in her class.

I don't want to go into a lot of detail, but this is the worst at my school it has been since this started.

Football team in quarantine, except those who got vaccine and same with coaches (only 2 coaches and about 10 kids vaccinated).

Apparently my classroom was petri dish ground zero Monday and Tuesday.

That is the short version.

Over this.

I hope you and yours continue to dodge the bullet, and your students as well.

My office dumped letting people off based on contact tracing in 2020. If you're not positive and symptomatic, we expect your ass to be at work. Not sure why schools would be any different particularly considering how rare it is for kids to have a life threatening case.

How are the two brothers (twins?) from your school doing? I apologize for losing track.
You didn't lose track at all. The parents haven't updated on social media is what we are hearing. We heard yesterday the boys are improving. Thanks for asking.

I am sure parents were overwhelmed by Facebook questions and comments.

Well one of our students died.

Edit: And two have been on ventilators and might still be.

Under the circumstances, that bad a$$ chest-thumping mentality should G--T--F--O.

Because there’s a delay in tests returning positive, and people are contagious and spreading virus in the meantime? Because people might in fact be symptomatic (or denying to themselves, or to others) and are contagious and spreading virus in the meantime? Because enough teachers and students might be out, and combining the others into new temporary groups allows the virus to spread to uninfected people?

Are we really still trying to nonchalant our way through this?

— Edited second sentence for making no sense whatsoever.

Yeah, that’s the whole problem with the basic virus mutating. We are dealing with the enemy we knew, and getting blindsided by the new one.

And the mutations that result in the variants are more able to happen in among unvaccinated people. Yes, vaccinated people are now getting infected with Delta, but at a tiny fraction of the rate of the unvaccinated.

To borrow Gordon C’s metaphor, the unvaccinated are just a giant Petri dish that allow COVID to infect and grow and mutate and start the whole f***ing miserable cycle all over again.

Nothing will stop this except vaccinations. It is obviously not going to burn itself out any time soon. Masks can sort of slow it, but they’re like some movie of people barricading themselves against the invaders with nothing much more than flaming arrows and boiling oil for defense.

Can't say that **** about a flu it's going to be here the rest of our lives. Thanks Guberments and all with connection to China. Kinda like what's happening in Afghanistan. Stupid people.
Yeah, sorry, no. Wherever and however it came from, it’s a disease, and it requires coordinated and science-based reaction, not emotional arm-waving, to knock it out.

Yammering about China and Fauci and Afghanistan (??????????????) is pointless and irrelevant and unproductive.

It will certainly be here the rest of our lives as long as half the population of our country has its thumb up its collective butt and refuses to do what is PROVEN to reduce the spread of the virus. Other than the degree of spread and lethality, there is nothing different about fighting COVID from polio, diphtheria, measles, or any other deadly virus. People need to act like grownups here and acknowledge that we have a common enemy, and we need to make a united resistance to it. Just like any other war or threat to our lives.

Are you really giving up so easily?
