Coronavirus (No politics)

I’ve never denied that vaccines help decrease symptoms. But it is very clear it doesn’t stop the spread, and no one is denying that right now.

Your consistent ad homs show you have no arguments
It doesn’t stop the spread, but the numbers show that it slows the spread. It’s definitely not as effective against Delta as it is Alpha, but the vaccinated are faring a whole lot better than the unvaccinated right now.

I get the hesitancy for many with the vaccination, however I struggle with the vitriol I see sometimes with the masking. I have no issue with peoples personal choice on either, just trying to see their line of thinking thats all.
The vitriol around masks is about politics. Most won't admit it though.

Maybe, especially in hospitalizations. But that was a totally different argument no one was having but mad Vols inserted it.

Lol. Do I need to present the literal thousands of videos showing the opposite?

Hypocrite much?
Both extremes truly suck. Just talked to a buddy of mine who was literally refused service at a restaurant in Athens yesterday because he forgot and left his mask in the car. He even asked the hostess if they had a mask he could wear for the daunting 15 foot walk through what apparently was a Viral Vietnam to get to their table where they were all allowed to take their masks off like the rest of the people in the restaurant.

You look like an idiot turning a mask into the Boston Tea Party. You look like an idiot screaming at people to wear a mask while yours slips below your nose and you ignore logic.

Just take care of yourself and use common sense people.

Agree 100%

Just don’t force people to wear them and I won’t care. Especially children. People can do whatever they want. It’s what I’ve said from the beginning

You have to follow policy though. Otherwise what's the point of having it?

I'm not arguing either side of the mask, but if a store/restaurant has a policy and you want to shop/eat there, you follow the policy. How you feel about it is irrelevant.

If you let "just this one", then you might as well let them all. (And I promise you, a hostess at any restaurant doesn't get paid enough to deal with this issue. lol)

The rest of the story is that he went back to the car and got his mask and when he returned, they still wouldn't seat him because "you questioned our policy and we can refuse service for any reason." The story sounds made up, but this guy just isn't the type to tell stuff like this. I think he just ran into somebody having a bad day. The funny part of the policy enforcement was that the hostess was all over him, but 10 feet away were 3 unmasked guys waiting to pay their bill.

Or he was rude to the folks before they bowed up on him?

Do you have one of a 30 something yo male with a mask going tough guy on some senior citizens without one?
I’m sure they’re out there. I know I’ve seen 30 something year old women yelling at senior citizens.

By the way, in spite of the ridiculous insinuation of that post, I’ve never and would never do what that idiot in the video did.

That'd be my first guess too, but this guy just doesn't do stuff like that. Plus, he had his 18 year old daughter with him who calls him out on everything. She was laughing at the story and said it was unbelievable how the hostess just broke bad on him out of nowhere lol.

Local school board wouldn’t mandate masks last week when school started. Mostly because a few parents pitched fits about it. Now a whole wing of the Middle School students and teachers are in quarantine after exposure and positive cases over the weekend.

Mask mandate goes into effect today. They already allowed an opt out before Lee’s EO.

Just saw this on my cousin's FB page...

Effective tomorrow, West Carroll schools will be closed down for the rest of the week.
West Carroll school superintendent Preston Caldwell has announced the closure of all West Carroll schools Wednesday, Thursday and Friday because of a rise of Covid-19 cases.
38% of the student population is in quarantine. There have been over 35 positive cases, as of this morning, and that number is climbing including staff. There are over 300 students quarantined today.
“The reason we have made the decision to close school is because we do not have enough teachers to cover all of our classes,” said Preston Caldwell, superintendent.
“We are following CDC guidelines that encourage wearing masks and social distancing. We will use this time to sanitize the school and work on a Plan B for virtual learning.”
Tuesday night’s board meeting at 6 p.m. is still on as scheduled. The board plans to review their quarantine guidelines and Mr. Caldwell will recommend that all teachers be compensated for any days they have to miss due to quarantine.
As of right now, Friday’s game against Bruceton will be played.

When my kids were young I used to think home schoolers were sort of weird. In light of all the stuff going on at schools these days that has nothing to do with reading, writing, and arithmetic I’m starting to understand their perspective.

Personal opinion: People, for the most part, are doing the best they can trying to reduce risk and balance life. Educators, business owners, health care workers, etc, are all making the best decisions they can. There isn't a right or wrong. And the fighting is stupid.

God bless. I'm out.

My opinion on masks. We can never show in a randomized trial that masks are effective. Why? Because the trials would have to be astronomically huge in terms of subjects. Think about it. In order to prove convincingly that a vaccine works, vaccine sponsors like Moderna and Pfizer had to run trials above 40,000! No one thinks that masks could be as anywhere near as effective as the vaccines so any randomized clinical trial of masks would have to orders of magnitude larger than 40,000. Never going to happen.

That means we are left with observational studies. But observational studies are much more sensitive to biases than randomized trials. By bias, I don't mean that the researchers are biased - I mean that there could be unobserved subject characteristics between people that use masks vs those that don't use masks that explain the differences in infection rates. Especially when any true effect of masks is likely to be small.

Finally, it could be that masks have different efficacy for some viruses versus other viruses So, the low rate of flu this past season doesn't necessarily mean that the masks helped for Covid.

Bottom line is that we could argue forever whether masks are effective or not but its unlikely that we will ever know the truth. For disclosure, I wear a mask in any crowded indoor place but I don't mask outside or in low density indoor areas.

No need to argue as Bass has clearly stated “masks do not work”. Not even a little bit, it’s none debatable

a lot of school teachers were hoping to not go back to the classroom this year. who wouldn't prefer staying home in your jammies and proctoring an hour of online independent study as opposed to showing up at school and dealing with six periods worth of today's youth? teaching is a crap job. it's important...but crap. underpaid to deal with unmotivated, entitled kids who cannot be disciplined and then it's your fault when standardized tests show them for what they are.

I started to school in 57. DW taught in 70s, 80s. So nothing has changed.

Not true. They make people like you feel better. So there's that.
Yet once again you are making blanket statements about something you don’t know. Provide the link where I said that - you can’t as mask wearing doesn’t affect my comfort level and I haven’t used one since 2 weeks after being vaxxed.

I will however be more than happy to wear one if it makes the folks around me more comfortable as I don’t view that as some huge sacrifice. It’s a matter of common courtesy not political or personal freedom issue to me. But hey - keep acting like you know me and what I think same as you know more than the combined medical profession.
