Unforced offensive penalties will be the most detrimental factor for Heupel's style of offense. Even if they can't get the blocking schemes completely dialed in early on, they have got to get the keep that line from stalling the offense with penalties if they are going to have any measure of success.
Not sure if people know this by Heupel's offenses are among the most penalized in the Nation. Despite that they're still always top 5 in offense. If they can cut those penalties down I can only imagine how good the offense will be.

What excites me about our situation is that this is the LARGEST this team has been in probably several decades. I don't think I'm over exaggerating that. We have been too small for quite a while. All these spread guys came in here with smaller lines before. Both Oline and Dline are somewhere between 325-350 pounds.

what Pruitt DID do, was make us BIGGER. You can hate him all you want, but he did do that.
I think Pruitt understood what a football player should "look like". I think he was a good teacher of the game- technique, defensive reads, etc.

His failure was the Peter Principle. He was promoted beyond the level of his competence. He just doesn't know how to be the leader of a whole team. That doesn't excuse his lack of integrity but he was unlikely to ever get the best out of team on a consistent basis.

We were a really undisciplined team in three seasons under Pruitt on the offense and defense so many unnecessary penalties. I really hope that is improved and better under Heupel
Sadly penalties will likely go up on offense. Heupel’s offense always at the top of most penalties. Just comes with the offense but it’s worth it. Offense always in top 5

I will disagree with you on JP being good at teaching technique. He had 9 months to prepare for Georgia State and our defense looked like it was practice #1

But some on here said Heupel is only bringing in smaller guys šŸ˜Ž

I am curious as to what made you think your second sentence was true. How was he a good teacher if technique when we had very little pass rush and our defense couldn’t line up correctly?

On Swain today:

ā€œThere’s not a coach in America that is happy with the first scrimmage in Fall campā€

True

ā€œDefense won the dayā€ā€¦ā€but that’s the way it’s supposed to beā€ (in 1st scrimmage). ā€œYou want back and forth, I expect the offense in the next scrimmage to win the dayā€

Right doesn’t mean much

ā€œHeupel is super optimisticā€ and confident in his offense. He’s not worried about defense winning the dayā€

I’m not sure if this is inexperience as a head coach. Sometimes coaches go too far to create a sense of optimism and fun. They can also get defensive (Butch Jones) and make excuses for terrible play. Not accusing. No way to really know at this juncture. I hope our D was indeed that good and I hope the poor O is correctable quickly.

ā€œD Terry had a pretty good day, explains why the Oline had issues with penalies being disruptiveā€

Pretty experienced OL. Should they be disrupted?

ā€œDefense typically wins first scrimmage because the Oline is like a synchronized swimming team, all guys have to be oneā€

Makes sense… new O in place.

ā€œHe expects the offense to respond and play well next scrimmageā€. ā€œYou want correctable filmā€
Ben:

Fair expectations. I think this all sounds like last year though, so it doesn’t mean much to me. It’s like reading the paper for me when I’m staring at it. Not your post… just his comments.

ā€œSloppiness on offense, unforced penalies, false starts, (delay of games šŸ˜‚), main issues on offensive lineā€

Now in an uptempo offense, how do they have delay of games? Did he say who?

ā€œByron Young and Roman Harrison creating havoc on defenseā€

Cool let’s hope it’s not because our OL still sucks.

All QBs had ups and downs. Hooker was most consistent, but is he going to continue to be aggressive and push the ball?, he’s been better at that in Fall camp

Not feeling good about this group yet.

Terry is one of the transfers I'm most excited about. Fairly new to football, but by all accounts is a beast. We desperately needed help on the DL and I think we got it. Wouldn't be surprised to see him starting before the season is over.
Don't know if it's your avatar, name or both, but I really enjoy it when you post.

Unforced offensive penalties as opposed to forced offensive penalties?
Yeah, unforced as in like you look across the los and see Reginald Howard White lined up across from you explaining his hip move that will soon move you laterally a few yards.

Yeah, but we were most worried about our D. Are you at least feeling a tiny bit better about that?
That’s why i am not feeling too good about them lol Last year I got caught up in a lot of subjective things like what this or that could mean good or bad… and then defended everything one way or the other against others arguing also subjective material as fact… that’s when I learned just how narcissistic people can be lol… at least I knew nothing was fact until it played out…

So this year I am stick with what we know for sure and not what could be or what someone thinks is fact but clearly hasn’t been proven as such… our D played better than our O. We don’t know what that means yet lol
