On Swain today:

“There’s not a coach in America that is happy with the first scrimmage in Fall camp”

“Defense won the day”…”but that’s the way it’s supposed to be” (in 1st scrimmage). “You want back and forth, I expect the offense in the next scrimmage to win the day”

“Heupel is super optimistic” and confident in his offense. He’s not worried about defense winning the day”

“D Terry had a pretty good day, explains why the Oline had issues with penalies being disruptive”

“Defense typically wins first scrimmage because the Oline is like a synchronized swimming team, all guys have to be one”

“He expects the offense to respond and play well next scrimmage”. “You want correctable film”
Ben:

“Sloppiness on offense, unforced penalies, false starts, (delay of games 😂), main issues on offensive line”

“Byron Young and Roman Harrison creating havoc on defense”

All QBs had ups and downs. Hooker was most consistent, but is he going to continue to be aggressive and push the ball?, he’s been better at that in Fall camp

Also some notes from RTI podcast (posted this from Heupel press conference thread)

Trey talked to people inside the program also.

Confirmed that the Dline won the day. Defense had a couple 3 and outs but offense still had moments. Anderson Coby caught a TD, etc

Another really good tidbit that I heard on here and on 247 podcast is the tackling was really good!! I mean that is rare this early in camp, especially in this age where you can’t hardly practice it

Terry is one of the transfers I'm most excited about. Fairly new to football, but by all accounts is a beast. We desperately needed help on the DL and I think we got it. Wouldn't be surprised to see him starting before the season is over.

Wasn't the offense always outperforming the D in the preseason under Pruitt and everyone was freaking out because that is the opposite of what you are supposed to see early in camp?

Seems like everything is progressing as well as can be expected with all things considered.

Swain also said Terry was a large individual. He said when you pull up the bus, you want Middleton and Terry to step off first. 😂

Unforced offensive penalties will be the most detrimental factor for Heupel's style of offense. Even if they can't get the blocking schemes completely dialed in early on, they have got to get the keep that line from stalling the offense with penalties if they are going to have any measure of success.

Unforced offensive penalties as opposed to forced offensive penalties?

Just watched several videos on youtube concerning Heupel's up-tempo offense and false starts are very common or they were at UCF where they were 5th most penalized team in the nation. Yep defense might get a chance to get some subs in when that happens.

Indeed. UCF was one of the most penalized teams in the country last year. False starts and illegal procedures/formations galore in this fast paced offense.

One film study guy mentioned that as a byproduct of this offense and it’s almost minute effect.

Yup it's a down side to the offense but when the offense is clicking it doesn't hamper them much
