KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee is set to open its 2021 campaign with an exhibition match against SEC rival Alabama on Wed., Aug. 11. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at Regal Soccer Stadium.

Admission is free for all preseason and regular-season soccer matches. For fans planning to attend, note that Tennessee's clear bag policy will be in effect again this season.

LAST TIME WE MET: Redshirt-senior Erin Gilroy netted UT's first goal of the 2020-21 season in the 76th minute, but it wasn't enough to overcome a trio of Crimson Tide goals, as UT fell 3-1 in Tuscaloosa on Sept. 19, 2020.

ALL-TIME VS. UA: UT owns a 13-8-1 advantage all-time against Alabama.

GUESS WHO'S BACK: UT is returning nine starters from the 2020-21 squad that claimed the SEC East Title, including four-time SEC Freshman of the Week and SEC goals leader Jaida Thomas. Senior Mackenzie George, a 2020 Second Team All-SEC honoree, is also returning, and fifth-year senior Wrenne French will be back to anchor the defense with her 60 caps, 54 starts, and 5,065 minutes worth of experience.

NEW FACES: UT welcomes the No. 17 signing class as rated by Top Drawer Soccer. The group is comprised of six versatile field players and one goalkeeper. It features four high school All-Americans and the United Soccer Coaches' 2020 National High School Player of the Year, Taylor Huff.

Additionally, UT added some experience to the squad via transfers, bringing on senior defender Hannah Zaluski, senior goalkeeper Ashley Gabor, and sophomore forward Cariel Ellis.

SCOUTING THE TIDE: Alabama is coming off a 7-8-2 overall record last season with a 2-5-2 mark in conference play.

Head coach Wes Hart enters his seventh season at the helm of Alabama soccer, and the Tide returns 15 players from last season's squad while welcoming 14 newcomers or redshirts.

UP NEXT: Tennessee's 2021 campaign officially begins Thursday, Aug. 19 as the Vols host Florida Gulf Coast. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Regal Soccer Stadium.
