Coronavirus (No politics)

Politics weren't mentioned in any of my comments..... none at all.
Why is it so important for you to debate our argue about something that's out of our control. The university or the sec will mandate whatever they decide and we as fans are just going to have to deal with it. So no matter what I think or you will not be taking into consideration.

'All of them': Tennessee health chief says children's hospitals will fill up as the delta variant surges
Delta is flooding hospitals in Tennessee, and pediatric wings won't escape the crisis, the state's top health official said this week.
Health Commissioner Dr. Lisa Piercey said the accelerated spread of the delta variant, on top of an unexpected rise of an unrelated respiratory disease, is on pace to completely fill children's hospitals across the state by the end of next week.
“All of them,” Piercey said Thursday, adding later: "Never in my career have I seen hospitals full in the summer."

23 kids in the hospital due to covid. Sounds like it’s really RSV that is of most concern

I'm sorry but if a member of my family dies then percentages mean nothing to me and due to her health, my daughter cannot be covered with vaccinations. Her Docs tried and the vaccines almost got her. So really, could care less about percent if she gets COVID and doesn't make it.

Doesn't matter what anyone's situation is or how small a chance they or their loves have to contract COVID, it a love one gets it and dies, being part of 1 percent won't matter to you or me. Forget all odds if I lose a family member.
I understand your daughter and a small percentage of folks with unique medical conditions are outliers and don’t fit into this general discussion. At this point in time, the data is pretty clear that for the average person they greatly reduce their odds of getting seriously ill or dying of Covid. Everything else is pretty much static at this point. Some folks continue to argue strongly against the average person having to take the vaccines mostly on the basis of personal freedom it appears. There’s probably folks that feel the same about all childhood vaccinations too

You should know how to google, but I just posted the first thing here that popped up from a children's hospital in Philadelphia. It is common knowledge in the medical community that you get greater immunity with natural infection.

Vaccine Safety: Immune System and Health | Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

Problem is this can assist in killing you and isn't like anything else we have really dealt with on a large scale infection rate. That's why getting the vaccine is a good idea for most adults, since that will help curb the variants and keep most out of the hospital.

I went back and forth about getting it, but decided it was in my and my family's best interest to do so. If others decide not to and want to chance it, then there is a much higher risk of dealing with lingering effects and/or death.

I can't imagine what sane common sense individual can't deduce that getting the vaccine gives them a better chance.

Hopefully they can develop a vaccine that will work for those that can't or shouldn't have the one's available.

Hope everything is going well for you, sir!

millions of people that oppose vaccines for religious reasons. again, percentages don't mean much to a person that loses a family member from the virus or the small percent that may have an adverse reaction to the vaccine. Just don't think it is comforting to those people.

You’re missing the point, if you are someone who is able and willing to take the vaccines, then it’s currently 96% effective against you getting seriously ill or dying of Covid. I’m sure if you or your loved one is one of the 4% then there was zero comfort in having taken the vaccine.

That's awesome! How's the golf game?

sucking.. I've cut back to about once a week for last couple months.. had some family issues distracting me and those are still dynamic. Gonna try and pick it up more starting this week.. Hope your family is doing well.

“96% of all new Covid cases are in unvaccinated people and 96.8 of Covid deaths are unvaccinated “

They told everyone from the start the vaccines weren’t 100% effective. Personally, 96% is better odds of working then most everything else in my life. If you’re waiting on any medical treatment to be 100% then your never getting anything provided by the modern medicine system.
Gender reassignment surgery is 100%

I'm not missing the point. We have had the vaccines. My daughter wanted the vaccine. took it and got really sick. She was part of the small percent. It is not meaningful to me, and many others, what the percentages are. We have real life experience with failure of treatment and risk of serious illness and/or death.. She has to live like a hermit to try and remain safe. Still has a lot of risk as husband has to work and son has to go to school. Both have been vaccinated but still could bring COVID home. Great life.

I think all those harping on percentages use that to ignore that small percent at high risk with little to no comfort for them because the percent of safety is HIGH. JMO

I’ve seen that purposefully skirted over in news articles. There’s a local girl on a vent with Covid, and the very last line of the article mentions that she also has rsv.

The share of infections in this age group hovered between 4% and 7% for most of last year. But the percentage has crept up this year as many older Tennesseans were vaccinated, causing the virus to find new hosts among younger, unvaccinated populations — including children.

Again with the bad math and incorrect conclusions. The % has gone up because fewer adults are getting sick. From what I've seen the raw numbers of children getting sick has not really changed

The statistical warfare of the past 18 months has been exhausting. Raw numbers are all I want to see. How many are sick? How many are being hospitalized? How many beds are available? And what is the trend for all 3?

From a small, local level, I can tell you this. Last winter and into the spring, we hardly admitted any kids to the hospital because they weren’t sick. Nobody was testing positive for flu or RSV. About 5-6 weeks ago, we started seeing lots of RSV and kids getting admitted all the time. The last couple weeks, we’ve been getting slammed with COVID again, at least as bad as back in December/January, if not worse. Seeing some COVID in the Peds population also, but none of those have required admission, to my knowledge. I just assigned two beds for COVID+ adults, one 35, the other 42, which has been the age group we’ve seen most this time around, folks < 50 years old. This 35 year old probably won’t survive.
