We are nearing a decision on our future as missionaries but at this point, everything is leading me to believe that that season is ending, at least temporarily. I’ve wrestled and fought with it for two years but finally have a peace about letting it go although I still have dreams of new ministry expressions in Thailand.
Praying for Clarity for you in seeking Gods will. Son serves God in Middle East those decisions can be difficult.

Lease vs. Buy discussion again… sorry guys…

So, I totally get having equity at the end of it. All of my rational thinking loves that.

My situation is I am trying to get my family into a home ASAP. We had no place to go to when we arrived unexpectedly from TH so it’s been hard the last two years.

A lease theoretically allows me to save more over the next three years to advance my home savings fund, essentially kicking the can down the road a bit. Once we are more financially stable, it will be better to purchase.

Someone help my logic there

For context, I’m looking at a Prius Prime,
$159 mo x 36 mo
15,000 annual miles
$2,999 at signing

Would my never lease posters still advise the same way?

Thanks guys. I know Jesus and fat loss… not finances

Yes, you can buy something descent for $8,400 that would probably last you well over twice as long.

Unless you’re wealthy, always pay cash and never lease or make payments….

Also, you should be looking to go back on the field before 3 years…. In you’re case a lease might be good so you don’t have to sell when you leave. There are ministries out there that “rents” vehicles to missionaries while they’re stateside for practically nothing

Thanks all

I’m eyeing a Hybrid Corolla at near the same price as the Prius. It’s a better car but all counts.

There is also a local deal for a new Hyundai Elantra gas only car, 0% APR, 0 down, $21,000 60 mo for $339 per month.

Thoughts between the two options, given my situation?
Might be hard to pass up this option. That’s a pretty good deal. Free money for you. It’s same cost whether you pay in full now or on a monthly basis. The Prius deal is nice too given your current situation. However, if you break down the numbers and what you have to pay up front for the lease, it’s only costing you about $95 a month extra for the first 3 years to buy the Hyundai, and you own after 2 more years as long as you want too.

I was looking at a Kawasaki Mule hard but decided on a Polaris Ranger. I bought used and use it primarily as a powered wheel barrel in my yard.

Wish I had bought one 10 years ago. Very satisfied.

Drove a Polaris Ranger in the mountains of New Mexico. It was an absolute blast. Great vehicle. Have no need for one, but absolutely want one now…🤠

Cars aren’t investments and nothing you should think of as having equity in. Just lease!

The more I think on it, Milton has to be the guy and I really like Bailey a lot.

Team is going to need as many playmakers on O as possible and Milton’s feet are Dobbs style differentiator which can make our line appear better than they actually will be.

Probably the best way to explain Huepel’s offense right here. For those that don’t think it will work. If the Offense has momentum it is going to be hard to stop.

Oh my! Exciting to think about keeping defenses off balance and being able to just run it up the middle while they are trying to figure out what they are doing. Glad for the warning about the false starts lol. I had been excited thinking about the passing game, but that has me remembering all those big running plays in the 90s.

So you think our line is going to be a problem?

A lot of media etc are iffy on ol miss and Pitt games for us. Maybe I’m naive but I think we win both.

But I’m kind of a homer so 🤷‍♂️
I think we smoke PITT with our speed at receiver….. Kiffin has never proven he slow down a JH offense….My main concern this season is how Tim Banks calls a defense but that is only bc I haven’t seen it yet…I really feel like we can win both games and may overwhelm some teams that try to keep up like Kentucky who may struggle offensively.

Thanks all

If you have another daily driver and don’t need a lot of range, Nissan has a deal on a 2022 leaf for $1449 down and $149/month. Depends on your situation though. I wouldn’t have this as my only vehicle because we often have to travel more than 149 miles. I’m considering it as my daily commuter though because I’ll save half the monthly payment in gas.

Here's my thoughts on leasing vs buying and buying a car in general.

I think it all depends on how you use the car. 15,000 miles isn't a bunch of miles. If you go over it's pretty punitive from what I've seen. I tend to drive them until there's not much left of them. I tend to buy used, very low mileage cars. I know used prices are insane right now. A lease wouldn't work for me right now as I drive 20,000 miles per year or more. That may change Ina few years when I retire and a lease may be more attractive. Also, I tend to have the resources to work on my own cars so warranties don't really move the needle for me.

If I were really trying to cut my cost down I would buy used, 50k or less miles, drive it until it's got 180K-200K miles on it and do it again. Maintain it well, yourself as your capable. Learn how to maintain it. Fix things yourself, youtube is a great resource. Teach your kids how to maintain.
