I totally disagree about CapReef, I think it is amazing. If all you know of it is the main road going through part then I understand...but the remote, hard to get to Cathedral Valley in the north, and the area the Burr trail traverses in the south part of the park are incredible. While in Moab we also visited Canyonlands NP (yet another canyon, but had great hikes; gotta love a rock that looks like a sombrero), Capital Reef NP (not impressed), Dead Horse Point State Park, and did a tough but really cool hike to Corona Arch.

Eastern Montana is just like Eastern Colorado...flat as a fritter. You have to love the Great Plains to love either place.Montana is beautiful too. At least to me the western part is. Just left there and not so impressed with what I saw of the eastern part of the state driving to SD.
What a neat place to hold a wedding.
Zion overrated?..Kanab has so much to do around it that it’s impossible to share it all. We saw:
-the north rim of the Grand Canyon where we did a couple of nice hikes and saw this amazing canyon from the other side. This was also the first place we saw bison. A nice surprise.
-Zion NP didn’t live up to the hype, probably because of crowds, but we did an awesome like there and saw these Bighorns at its end
-Horseshoe Bend, but I’ve already posted pix from there since it’s in AZ.
-Bryce Canyon NP was the first park we visited that we said we’ve got come back to again in the future. Just when we thought we’ve seen all the cool rock formations we could, we visit this place. And awesome hikes, including the best one I’ve done, the Navajo Loop. I lived about 100 miles east of Billings. There were some nice hills out my direction but for the most part it was flat and treeless.Eastern Montana is just like Eastern Colorado...flat as a fritter. You have to love the Great Plains to love either place.
Beautiful..The best part of our Kanab stay was that our daughter, son-in-law, and 4 of our grandkids came out from SC while we were there. We had a great time in spite of triple-digit temps just about every day.
We visited a few places we thought the kids would enjoy more, although they did awesome on the adult hikes.
The girl in the purple shirt in the 3rd picture is Maia, our miracle girl, and I’ve got to brag on her a bit. They adopted her from an orphanage in Bulgaria. Although she was 3 or 4, she was developmentally like a baby because of malnutrition. She couldn’t walk, crawl, or move much at all. Doctors said she would never be able to walk.
Not only can she now walk, she did all of the hiking with us. Sometimes miles at a time, up and down mountains.

I love Sheridan...that would be a cool place to live I think...not a fan of Billings.I lived about 100 miles east of Billings. There were some nice hills out my direction but for the most part it was flat and treeless.
Side note: I spent all my summers in the Bighorn Mtns of Wyoming. Absolute heaven on earth.
My daughter plays beach volleyball and recently played in Pompano Beach. I was absolutely astonished when there were 13-17 year olds playing in thongs and their parents sit and watched like it was no big deal. What are we doing as a society to normalize this type of stuff for our young ladies?Beach volleyball in a thong? Ok. Gives new meaning to "gritty performance".
God's Glory.Clearly, few of you read my last Kanab, UT post about Maia. So lesson learned; short and to the point.
Beartooth Highway and Chief Joseph Scenic Highway.

I totally get it. My daughter has been doing competitive dance since she was three. Thankfully, our teacher is very conservative and requires tights with leotards and does not allow bare midriffs, typically. Some of the costumes I have seen at these competitions along with some of the choreography for young ladies from 6 to 18 is downright shameful. @VolsDoc81TX can likely attest as it sounds like he has been attending dance competitions for his daughter for some time as well.My daughter plays beach volleyball and recently played in Pompano Beach. Billings is a butthole. Nothing good there lol. There’s a little town called Dayton about 15 miles outside of Sheridan at the foot of the Bighorns that I would move too if I ever went back out there.I love Sheridan...that would be a cool place to live I think...not a fan of Billings.
