Latest Coronavirus - Yikes

So, just that I have this straight...

Wear a mask to prevent the spread until we get a vaccine.

We get a vaccine so we can stop wearing masks...

Now we should wear a mask even if we are vaccinated?

Is double masking next on the agenda and that Fauci idiot going to suggest face shields again?
Just wait until next fall when another variant calls for lockdowns and mail in balloting for the midterms.😉👌

What's "fearmongering" about it? Nearly 2/3 usage of ICU beds is not an insignificant number. While you're right about the lack of specificity in the numbers, and the real question is "what % of Covid patients are hospitalized in inpatient beds as opposed to ICU?", the six states whose ICU beds are at 70% capacity all rank in the bottom half of the country in percentage of their populations vaccinated, with the lone exception of Rhode Island which has less than 100 ICU beds in the entire state. You can start a pissing contest over what qualifies as "a strain," but the numbers are what they are.

2/3rds of ICU beds in usage - what's the general %? I would imagine it's got to be close to this given the high expense of these units.

Found this data - as of July 24th we were just under 8K total compared to a peak of 29K in January. While the trend it up; the numbers are still low. For reference there are about 75K ICU beds in the US (so just over 10% of ICU beds are occupied with Covid patients currently).

Other than the fact that the numbers are climbing, that's great. But, again, compare that with the disbursement back in the winter. ICU bed usage was way up in pretty much every state except for a few sparsely populated states like Idaho and Wyoming. Now the states inching toward capacity are all states with lower vaccination rates. The previous problem states like NY and NJ are hanging out around the national average.

What's the normal national average for icu bed usage? Hospitals are businesses they dont stay open by having huge excesses of open beds, ICU or otherwise.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5520980/

"In 2005, intensive care unit (ICU) beds in the United States (US) accounted for 15% of hospital beds; occupancy rates were estimated at 68%"
I dont remember all the dead bodies lying in the streets from the great plague that hit us then. But it must have been devastating since 7% more ICU beds were in use that year.

Fear porn. If you want people to believe there is an issue due to Covid you really should establish how things are worse now first.

LMFAO ok. When the end of the world started I pointed out the particle size as even compared to an N95 efficiency at that point and it fell off. But sure your used drawers on your face are all over it 😂

I'll accept this retort as capitulation that masks work (even against aerosols) as evidenced by peer reviewed, empirically based science.

inching toward capacity? The highest in the CDC numbers that were linked in an earlier post is Georgia at 80%; given 65-70% is normal capacity it seems the ICU crisis is being overblown.

maybe I'm missing what you are suggesting?
