There's a difference in not having it physically. If she were injured, no one would complain. I do admire her for admitting it was not physical. She could have said it was physical and no one would have thought very much. She is being perceived as not being mentally tough, when she has demonstrated before that that is not the case. Something has happened to change it. I have thought about this a lot. I am feeling less critical now than I was, but I still don't totally get it.
Good response. My only question/statement is that mental performance affects physical performance. Not being in the zone mentally transfers.

If a pitcher isn't in it mentally they could lose the world series or a batter could hit the ball of their face and seriously injure him. The pitcher could just skip the start and hope his teammates are good enough to pick up the slack and still win the world series.
Okay, so that just reinforces my original anology doesn't it?

MJ misses buckets on an off night. Brady overthrows receivers. Biles could break her spine and paralyze herself if she misfires on a triple-double 12ft in the air. The risks are not the same.

Except she could choose to change her routine. They do it all the time and even during the middle of it if they are off.

That’s a nice set of hooters you have there.

Why yes, yes they are.

When I was in high school we had a guy pull out from the region tournament after one match from a lingering shoulder injury he had all year.

His backup absolutely lost his mind about that. If you can't understand why, I don't know what to tell you. Waiting until the final hour to pull out, screwing over your team mates is a bitch move. Any sport. Not to mention after self-delcaring yourself the goat two seconds ago.

Not uncommon for guys to wait til the last second to pull out.....

How much if the Biles stuff is probably tied to the scoring rules exception they put in for her? That can be a mental mind F for a superior athlete that has to then take it down a notch. It usually ends up looking ugly when you can fully extend the way your body wants to. I know I have trouble soft tossing with accuracy trying not to throw fast compared to when I can fully extend my arm and let it rip.

I'd imagine a backup olympic athlete prob has a different mindset than the backup at a high school regional, but who can say.

Yes. However mad a kid was to miss out on a regional tournament, an athlete missing out on the Olympics while the person who took their spot backs out because they aren't feeling it is probably 1000x worse.
