I have a feeling that when those folks realize the practical consequences that such a step would cause, they might not feel the same way.

No Medicare
No Social Security
No national military
No national infrastructure and chaos in air travel

And that's just for starters.

But, resentment is strong in this country. As is a sense of entitlement. In all directions.

That's a pretty big assumption to base on one message board comment. But, yes, I'm pretty confident that the main reason for the bs secession talk is people have turned politics into a team sport and have been convinced by the Tuckers and Maddow of the world that the sky is falling every time they don't get their way.

The lefties and the righties whining about secession should both go find their own islands or rain forests and set up their utopian societies. The rest of us simpletons that don't want to go all fringe cosplay revolutionary can stay here.

I dont need any talking head to know the federal government is out of control.

“10,000 Lichtensteins” would be glorious. Countries work together through free trade all the time. How much longer are we going to be a national power with 30 trillion in debt anyway?
We tried that once. It was called the Articles of Confederation and it failed spectacularly. The 1783 constitution realized the need for a stronger Federal Government for defense and commerce and foreign policy. The genius of the Constitution was that it was a finely balanced solution that created a federal government JUST STRONG ENOUGH to meet those needs and then it narrowly constrained those powers in an enumerated list and then clarified in the 9th and 10th Amendments that any powers not so enumerated remained with the people as expressed by their states. The current mess we are in is because we stopped taking those limits literally. The US Government has allocated powers to itself that the founders never intended and the courts have refused to reign it in. And for all their talk in favour of limited government, the Republicans, once in power, happily take part in the same power feeding frenzy. Once they are safely in the club, they have no problem wielding the same powers. That was I think what Trump was about and why the establishment Repubs fight him to this day.

I’ve found a pretty nice Utopia right where I built my house. And I’d like to financially decouple it from irresponsible debts incurred in places like DC, CA, and NY.

Probably should have thought about that before you built your personal paradise in a country that was so easily coopted into a foul communist backwater by the libs.

Well since I’m only a citizen of this country I really didn’t have a choice. Now if I could remain a citizen of “this country” while ridding myself of those ignorant fiscally irresponsible backwater libs it would be a better Utopia. And upon rereading that I’m not certain I’m being sarcastic.

Is this the same Constitution that has allowed for the largest, most powerful central govt in human history?
The Articles of Confederation failed because the banking interests were scared that they wouldn’t be made whole on the war bonds that
they bought off Continental soldiers for pennies on the dollar. The Constitution was the solution.

Liar.

Edit: Lying deceitful liar.
You must be an admitted communist. Would you rather go to war with people in order to try and force them to live life the way you see fit? Why not let you and like minded people like yourself have your own country? Let people who actually want a non corrupt gov. have their own country.

I have an extremely strong sense of entitlement to my own wages and the real property deeded in my name. That’s about it though.

The constitution is only as good as it is followed. SCOTUS over the last 80 years has abdicated its authority to force Congress and Administration to follow it. FDR threatened to pack the Court after it began thwarting the New Deal (sound familiar?) and the court has towed the expansionist line ever since. Want to know why the Dims fight every Republican SCOTUS nominee so fiercely? It isn’t really about abortion. At its heart, the fear is that the Court will actually begin to follow the letter of the Constitution. They almost did. on Obamacare till Dread Justice Roberts chickened out and played politician instead of Chief Justice. What an absolute coward.

So it’s worth less than the paper it’s printed on.

If America ever fractures, it will be along urban/rural lines, not along state boundaries. Even in large „blue“ states like California, the vast majority of the land area outside on the major urban centers is inhabitanted by normal sane people. If those states ever seceded, most of their counties would in turn try to secede from the new blue overlords. What you would eventually end up with is basically independent city states on the coasts with the core of America remaining intact. But it would be a disaster for us all. The city states would sit on our major harbors and ports and have the ability to control commerce. The red lands would control food production and energy supply. The resulting economic „cold war“ would be terrible beyond imagination. The only winners would be the Chi-coms and the Russians because we would be finished as a power. So we have to learn to work together as a country. There is no viable plan B IMO

The pot growers in the rural areas of Northern California are my favorite type of people.

Oh you just had to add some moral equivalency in there to help try to justify your point. It's not equivalent if one deals in lies and known falsehoods.
