trust me.
as a coach of 15 years+

JP has the talent every coach wants.
but he lacks the desire every coach wants.
JP looks for excuses so far in his career to not be his best, not reasons or ways to excel.
Give me 10 guys with half his talent but Heart, and I will beat a team full of his talent 24 times out of 25 games

Talent? He certainly has athleticism but has the worst shooting motion I've seen in awhile. His FT form is pathetic.

Classy. Prince's play was not good before and after his injury. He needs to learn to pass.

I said last night that we should play Woolridge over him and let him take his freshman lumps. I agree with everything Mania says. Also Prince was about has productive last night as Steven Pearl.

Wool was as bad or worse than Prince.


Yes JP has talent....well...potentially...he has a great slashing ability and ability to take it to the rack...I never said he was a great shooter...yes his ft form blows as well.


the kid has the talent...i question if he has the desire

Well when you said talent I figured you were considering more than just athleticism. As in talented passer/shooter/decision maker/etc.

The sad thing is Prince's dad is a basketball coach but he never got him to change his horrible FT form while growing up.

we use several folks at that spot.

For my money, I'd play:

1 - Tabb
2 - Hopson
3 - Tatum
4 - Tyler
5 - Chism

I'd back 'em up with Maze, Williams, Negedu and Woolridge. I just haven't seen anything from Woolridge lately that warrants more PT. If I benched Hopson for D, I'd probably go bigger and put Williams / Negedu in and move Tyler to the 3.

The big difference between the two is that Prince has been out of High School for 3 or 4 years and hasn't improved at all. Woolridge has been in college for maybe 6 months and he's already better than Prince. We should stick him in their and let him learn or we could start both Hopson and Tatum. As long as Prince doesn't play.

I'm all for starting Hopson and Tatum - but its obviously not my call :p.

I was hoping to see that lineup at the beginning of the season - with Maze starting of course or West.

The problem is that Hopson, Negedu, Williams, and Woolridge will all be fine players in a couple years they are just being asked to do too much this early. Despite having T. Smith this would still be considered to me as a rebuilding year. I hope Chism can stay because we will need him to take a major load or the scoring and rebounding next season.

That is a very good comparison. Both played out of control and could jump through the roof but couldn't hit a shot if there life depended on it, though Asumnu was a better rebounder IMO. They are opposites though in build Asumnu was shorter with strangely long arms and Prince looks like a pencil with a strangely small head.

I totally agree, one thing these players need to learn is to continue to play even when bad calls are made. Bad calls happen in every game, but this team stops when there is a no call. They don't get the foul and they throw their hands up at the ref why the other team goes down to score. I know they are young but the next one that does that needs to warm the bench for the rest of the game. Let the fans and Pearl yell at the refs.

No - that's a horrible comparison. Asumnu was a high energy player who gave it his all 100% of the time and actually played defense. He didn't whine or cry or complain when he fouled either. The guy wasn't a huge contributor and was limited by his size and shooting ability - but he was electric, an athletic freak, and gave it his all. Don't mix up the two - Negedu or Crews is a better comparison to Asumnu that JP will ever be.
