I’ve always heard that the Grainger Co tomatoes we find in grocery stores are Empire tomatoes. It’s a variety grown by farmers, but I’ve never seen seed or plants for sale to Backyard Bill and Barb.

For store maters, they’re nice and tasty, although I think a lot of what makes them special is the soil, latitude, and altitude. The terroir, I guess.
