I gotta go with Reggie Cobb myself I know his career was cut short in his Jr. year by drug use but he was the best running back I ever watched at UT . He had power and speed and he was elusive as well for a bigger RB. He also was a good receiver out of the backfield. One thing I remember about Cobb was he didn’t get tripped up much or tackled on his way to the endzone even if it was from 20 yards or 3 yards out. He was taking it in for 6. Sadly he passed away in 2019.

My favorite was Charlie Garner

The most talented was Jamal Lewis, Chuck Webb or Alvin Kamara

The best is Travis Henry. His numbers here back that up[/QUOTE. I think my top three would be Cobb, Webb and Henry. Charlie Garner was really good too seems like he gets forgotten about.

Reggie Cobb might have won the Heisman in the 89 season if not for drug use he was having a great season him and Chuck Webb. I think it was cocaine not sure but i remember Majors booting him off the team before the Bama game we were 5-0 headed into that game and lost the only loss we had that season.

I’m going with Charlie Garner. If he had been at UT for four years......he would have over 4,000 yards. Averaged almost 7 yards a carry and could catch the ball out of the backfield.

Stanley Morgan or Johnnie Jones is my favorite though.

Yep. Cobb was special. He had a decent career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers too.
Seemed like they really grinded him up in Tampa, like Earl Campbell, just less productive. Lots of carries, good yardage, rather low Yd/att (unlike Campbell there). He was kind of on his own with those teams down there.

My favorite was Jamal Lewis. He was physically on another level. Guys didn’t want to tackle him as a freshman. The strength of a bull and the speed of a mongoose. He showed in the NFL just how great he truly was.

*Within 40 rushing yards of the all-time single season record
*Youngest with 200 scrimmage yards in a game since 1960
*Youngest to score a TD in the Super Bowl
*2nd rookie to get 100 yards in the Super Bowl
*500 yards against the Browns in a single season
*7 1,000 yard seasons in 9 playing years
*Over 10,000 career rushing yards

That’s another guy who was dealt some bad luck. I think he rushed for 1200 yards or something his freshman season. He ran for 250 plus yards against Arkansas in the Cotton bowl. Chuck Webb could’ve won the Heisman too.

He was the best I’ve ever seen. Blew out his knee vs. Pacific. He was fast and could run around or over a defender.

So many greats have come through UT. Hard to name just one. OP mentions the combination of power and speed. Best RB with that combo was Jamal Lewis. Overall, Jamal was a beast. I'd have to go with him.
